Never started boxing until age 23, was one of the first southpaws, beat harry greb twice got to draws with the bigger maxie rosenbloom and was a former middleweight champion.

I think, arguably, the board does underate him, yes. He was ranked 15th on the middleweight poll, which may be to low, I certainly dont like that he was below Cerdan and LaMotta, especially given those dual wins over the board's #1, Harry Greb. I rate those wins, especially the second over a seemingly resurgent Greb. Those fights were close, but so what? Fighting Greb close and getting the nod, twice, is an astonishing achievment.

Tiger was highly impressive and at his peek vs Greb in the 1924 Ohio no decision HOWEVER Greb by that time was a 30 year old speed fighter loosing his speed battling with one eye and had been parting heavily after defeating Ted Moore in Yankee Stadium middleweight title defense.

Greb vs Flowers in 1926 should be looked upon same as Ali vs Berbick

His problem was a weak chin. He suffered many KO losses. He matched up well with an old, shopworn half blind Greb who was never a big puncher but the middleweight division has been filled with murderous punchers that would have flattened Tiger. I think fifteen or so is about right.

I have Ed W. Smith* articles stating very clearly what was left of Harry Greb by the time 1926 rolled around. I do believe that would take precedents over your reasons.
Not that you made any B.T.W.

His problem was more incompetent management than week chin.

I wouldnt say Walk Miller was incompetent, Id say his choices were made more due to the time and location he was promoting in. I think its fairly amazing that he actually had success with some of the fighters he managed.

His resume outside the Greb wins it a tad patchy..He has some great wins, a few debatable decisions that went against him but he also had some bad losses against the better fighters he fought outside of Harry.

I dont take the Greb wins exactly how they look on paper...I think its safe to say that the Greb that Tiger fought wasnt the same bloke who beat Tunney and Loughran...But thats not to say they are a pair of very, very good wins.

I had him in my 10 but then he got pushed out to about 12 I think...That division is a ***** to rate though.

Yeah, I've always questioned the "weak chin" argument as well, as widespread as it is. The guy was being thrown in with LHWs and HWs, and experienced ones, from the very beginning of his pro career. Can't really blame him for getting KO'd a number of times under those circumstances.

Greb would be dead shortly after the Tiger fight.

Trying to get that dang eye fix. People seem to forget that Greb was half blind going into the fight.

Think of Ali vs Fraizer III once Ali close Joe's eye. But round 1 lol.

Greb was pretty much done by than.
