The scary thing is Carlos Christie managed to go the distance with William Joppy. That was a shocking fight.

Pure nuthugging by the commentators even back then. How did they say Christie didn't land a punch...... 3:34 tries showboating and gets his head rocked back pure Calzaghe comedy. Not bothering watching past the first round. Calzaghe was a truly woeful 'boxer'

Unbelievably ****ing good. Everything is there, the complete fighter, just needed refining a little.

Calzaghe at that age, would have beaten Roy Jones at the same age, probably by stoppage.

The speed, accuracy, angles, workrate, reflexes and stinging power should leave any real boxing fan in awe, or even anyone who hates the sport for that matter

That's clear as day. At the same age, RJJ was fighting runts like Toney and Hopkins. How lucky Joe never came to town. Scary.

Gotta give Christie an "A" for effort. Joe just hits too hard .. like a bone crushing machine or something. Joe Technique.

    Good post China_hand_Job.

And being taken the distance by a past prime Fermin Chirino.

It isn't even up for debate who is better. Roy Jones is one of the five best fighters in the history of the sport.

The gulf between Calzaghe and everyone else is massive. He is equal in skill to absolutely anyone, with the bonus of being able to throw twice as many punches, whilst maintaining accuracy.

That's a common statement on ESB from obviously horrible (non-) athletes. Wonder why that is?
