    Fellow scribes of ESB.

I hear constantly from the casual and hardcore that boxing wasn't what it was back in the day, and that is because the fighters are worse now. I'm here to let you know that is the biggest lie out there.. Simply put, pay TV
killed boxing's mainstream popularity, and that's all there is to it. The last "great" heavyweight(which has always dictated boxing's relevance as a sport) was mike tyson. And what network could iron mike be seen destroying no hopers like pinklon thomas, carl williams, tyrell biggs, and
perrinial contenders like james smith, trevor berbick, and a 100 year old
larry holmes? Why on ESPN. It came with your basic expanded cable, and if the cable co. sent out a lazy disconnection guy, it was free.:yep
10 years before that, you could watch greats like duran, hagler, hearns,
and leonard fight on antenna tv for free. Now you have to pay an extra 15-20 a month on top of your cable pkg. or have a damn dish on your house to watch klitscko, pavlik, or malignaggi or pay $50 for 1 viewing
of pacquiao or mayweather. I've followed boxing for 3 decades, and watched fight analysis of every era of boxing since it's creation on TV, and i can honestly say that the fighters right now are as good or better than what we watched a decade or 7 decades ago. The politics and greed
of TV networks and promoters are the ONLY reason boxing is dead to the public. As for hardcore's, guys and gals of ESB. We have it better than any other generation before for 2 simple reasons. Globalization and the internet. We now have heavys the size of primo carnera who can fight regularly, and brits who can finally finish fights vertically. fighters like manny pacquiao can acheive greatness and warm hearts much like the henry armstrongs of yesteryear. So, when bitching and moaning about how the sport is dead and never giving really any fighter full props. Try
watching the sport how it was instead of listening to people ***** about how it is, and you'll soon discover boxing is very much alive and well.
Besides, as another poster recently remarked brilliantly. "who cares about
a bunch of casual fans anyway, and do we want them around"

    That about sums it up!

That's because you're a casual fan who recently crashed ESB. You know nothing about boxing because you're either a flaming homosexual looking for attention or a smart mouthed 15 yr old punk kid. Either way, **** off.
    No one wants you here.

You're exactly right- if ESPN showed quality fights and I didn't have to explain to people why Kimbo Slice couldn't be heavyweight champion, I'd quit bitching about it. As it stands, I have a better chance of seeing the "worldwide leader of sports" playing little league baseball games or poker than I do of seeing a title fight on it.

Boxing isn't mainstream anymore because of the politics of the sport and delayed fights. Major fights are not happening as frequently as they used to be because they're no longer being televised by non-premium networks. Because of that boxers salaries are also getting lower.

Too much power in the promoters and networks, not enough the in the boxers hand. And the reason why is that HBO and Showtime have a monopoly over professional boxing. In order to BREAK this monopoly they need to start televising championship bouts on ESPN, TNT, CBS sports, ABC sports, Spike, etc. Also boxers will get more money if their fights are televised by CBS sports, or TNT.

You wouldn't be saying I didn't know anything about boxing if we were in the same boxing ring. And if you've been a fan for so long, why is your grammar and speech so similar to a 5th grader's? Are your feelings hurt?

You're almost exactly right, we need to start seeing boxing matches on TNT, CBS sports, Spike, ESPN, etc. Anything that isn't premium television.

    Boxing Is doing fine.

    DLH vs Whitaker did 720,000
    DLH vs Vargas did 935,000

If a fight like Mayweather vs. marquez can sell 1m now

Imagine the numbers those fights would have done with 24/7 etc

The main event guys like berbick were, but not the rest. Alot of tysons fights in his early career were on espn. Now espn has clubfighters only.
Woods/cloud was the only good and important fight on espn in a long time.

I don't think boxing is ever going to die out, but if it dose Pay Per View will be standing there with bloody hands and a smoking gun.

Boxing is not doing fine, why do you think MMA is becoming more popular? Because MMA fans can watch it on Spike TV. Sorry but the top boxers today fighting once or twice a year isn't cutting it and many of the up and comers are not picking up the slack. That's why everyone is still talking about Hopkins, even though he fights once or twice a year. Mayweather vs Marquez should of happened on July 18 but it got delayed for two months, that hurt revenue, that hurt HBO, that turned off fans.

Boxing is no longer even mentioned in newspapers. Boxing is WAY less popular than before and losing revenue mainly because the promoters and the politics of the sport is either preventing or delaying fights from happening. There needs to be a serious change, like start televising fights on CBS, NBC, etc.
