What's up guys, When throwing the jab/cross/jab combo, is the last left jab thrown exactly like the first (more from the shoulder)? Or would one throw the left more like the right cross, by using more of the waist? I apologize if the question seems unclear. I will try to clariy if need be. Appreciate any advice.
Depends if your throwing the jab to pierce a guard or to regain your balance after the right hand. These kind of questions should be directed at your boxing coach not a forum.
At this time, I'm not able to get training from a coach. This is the reason I'm learning everything I can from boxing instructional videos, and this forum. Appreciate your answer though.
If your intending to actually fight one day do not train yourself- your probably doing yourself more harm then good you'd be better served getting fit and doing suitable weights.
I used to but only briefly before realizing its almost impossible without a trainer! With the best will in the world you will pick up bad habits i did after only a couple of months , you end up thinking you know what you are doing which is dangerous imo. Joining the gym best thing i ever did!:good
As Jeff mentioned, a lot depends on what what you are trying to achieve with the jab - if you are fighting a pressure fighter, jabbing away following a combination can maintain the space for which you need to work - in this instance you would throw the jab in a similar manner to your first jab, but with a slight adjustment to your footwork. If you are the one doing the pressing, I like to see my fighters step in (and out a little) with the first jab, fire the right hand down the pipe and step in again with the second jab, but turning the fist so the jab comes in low - this can lead your opponent into dropping their guard to parry, which leaves them open to another right hand over the top.
it can be used to propel yourself back out of harms way after the right lands, as the jab lands push back with your front leg, teaches you to get out just as your opponent throws something back
I've had to work on my 1-2-1 because my second jab aka the 1 would be thrown way too wide. It's a little better now but bad habits from past things you do creep up on you. For me if I'm trying to throw a quick 4-5 punch combo just to see what happens it ends up being fast but wide and sloppy, and I think to myself "I'd get countered with these punches". So I try to focus on getting good habits by trying to throw tight punches though I'm still not sure if my left hook is too wide or not. I'm also self training for now and it's a slow process but you see results happen, but if I were you and there was a gym around I'd go there. I'll have to wait 7 months or so before I get to a gym but I can be in good shape before that time.
It is best for you to just do continues punching on the heavy bag 200 on top 200 under 200 on top x6 untill you can get to a gym. at least you wont get tired when someone is coaching you .If you self coach it will take an 6 months longer to just learn the basics
