A well known boxing coach here in Canada named Russ Anber, says that he prefers his fighters (orthodox) to finish off their combos with their left hand. Is there any reason why he would suggest this?

He's a good coach but with some incredibly stupid ideas like not punching while moving.

It's a stupid suggestion. Ignore it.

I always do this. If you throw a 1-2, when the right hand comes out your arms fully extended, you're up the ball of your foot and most of your weight is on the left foot, meaning for a split-second you're a little bit off-balance and and in good position to be countered if your opponents quick enough. Throw a Jab or Left Hook and even if you miss you'll snap back into balance faster then if the right hand was the last punch in your combination.

Alternatively, take a small step left with your left foot as you throw the right hand - this will keep you on balance, and then pivot away.

Personally, I would teach good balance rather than having to finish with a predictable left hand.

Well. You should finish of with a jab (left) after your combinations, it doesn´t mean that every combo needs to finish with a jab, but after your combo, throw a quick jab, it puts you directly in the right position with your guard, stance and you are ready for any attacks from your opponent. So that advice is good, in my opinion.
But "don´t punch when you move". That sounds stupid. Learn how to and you will be hell for your opponents, always done that, all my fighters know how to, everything is about timing with hands and feets.
Muhammad Ali was pretty good at it... He he he!

I always teach to throw a jab or a faint at the finish to bring you back to your starting postion. It stops you getting hit.
