What went wrong? The guy has no Chin and no heart. That is a bad combination to have for a prize fighter.
Lack of grit, that intangible to dig down. Too easily made gun shy. When he actually unloaded on Danny Williams in one of his best performances he ****ing killed him. But, as usual, disaster was right around the corner after that win. I don't know what it is about some hyped British prospects... If they're overly sheltered and made to feel invincible or what. They have so many things their own way. Haye, Khan, Audley... Then you look at UK fighters brought up the hard way like Martin Rogan, Carl Thompson... Doesn't seem like there's much middle ground.
Exactly. When you combine his glass jaw with his utter lack of heart, it was inevitable that he would go nowhere in boxing.
True, I just remember how everyone was talking about his Gold Medal and how everyone was saying that he was going to be the next Lennox Lewis. Then looking on your glass jaw rankings made me think "where did it go wrong"?
I wouldn't lump Haye and Khan in with Harrison, Haye was the Undisputed Cruserweight Champion and Khan, despite geting KO'd, is still showing alot of promace and even won the WBA title. If I'm remembering right the only title Audley won was the WBF, and the WBF title and $1.50 gets you a cup of coffee.
Amateur boxing is very different from pro boxing, even more so these days than in the past. Of course if you're an olympic gold medal winner you're also a skilled and talented boxer, but you're not necessarily a great fighter. That's exactly the case with Auley Harrison. Some great amateurs become mediocre or even bad pros, while some good pros weren't successfull with the amateurs. But the british were just putting too big expectations in Audley, they desperatly wanted another Lennox Lewis and started hyping him, and they never understood that Audley just wasn't a good pro and that he rather should have stayed with the amateurs for another 4 years and maybe win another medal. Now the brits all hate him since he 'disappointed' them by not becoming the next Lennox Lewis - it's very unfair imo
believed his own hype i reckon got far to cocky he really thought A-force was a force to be reckoned with and then just wound up looking stupid!!
