Cotto is still underrated on these forums

Cotto is the truth, and remember one thing in order to have haters you must be really good.

Just Look at Mayweather.

 

Cotto's a fantastic fighter. Not a great one, but definitely no push over for ANYBODY right now at 147. Pacman is going to have a real fight on his hands.

 

My only knock on Cotto is that he is very easily hit and although i believe he beats everyone at welter right now...i think Floyd is a tall task for him....but who isnt Floyd a tall task for.....Cotto has proved everything....he deserves all his accolades as should Floyd who cleanes out his original weight class and took on all commers as he came up in weight well pre 147 at least.

 

i dont think he is hated particularly because of his upcoming fight with Pac, it is simply more people think Pac will win. He is being underrated alright, but i think it has more to do with Pac's haters trying to make a PAC victory, IF he wins, (which is really incredible) worth less than what it really is.

 

The fact that you're using some of those names that you listed to prop up his resume let's me know that you may be overrating the guy. Anyway, Cotto has taken on some really good opposition as of late. There's no denying that. However, just because you take on good comp. doesn't make you unbeatable.

He got beat up and stopped by Margo. Clottey outlanded him by a large margin, and Clottey landed a good majority of the hard punches in that fight as well. Cotto was reduced to using a lot of movement in the latter parts of that fight and received a razor close decision in front of a mostly P.R crowd. In fact, had Clottey not suffered that flash KD at the end of round 1 from that jab, Cotto would've lost that fight. That's how close it was. Against Mosley, he started out well and then started to get tagged as the fight went on, and was forced to retreat in the latter rounds. Mosley landed well over 50% of his power punches, yet Cotto got another decision in front of a mostly pro Cotto crowd.

When you have fights lke this, people will start to doubt your ability. Clottey, Mosley, and Margo are definately Cotto's 3 best opponents and he could've easily lost to all 3. Pac is arguably more talented then all of those guys. This and also my belief that Cotto doesn't match up well with Pac is why I'm so confident in saying Pac will win. And this time, Cotto isn't going be able to enjoy the comforts of partial crowd that will oh and ah even when Cotto's hitting shoulders, air, and elbows.

 

I see where your getting at and yes he could have lost to all three (yes he lost to Margo), but I think your just basing your opinions on how Shane and Clottey performed. You forget that Cotto out-boxed Margo for a whole 6 rounds before 'Plaster of Paris' settled in. Cotto thought with one eye against Clottey all the way past round 3, and Mosley..well I beleive that was a really, really great performance from Miguel, with Mosley being the 'harder and quicker' puncher.

 

On the flip side he actually owns 2 big wins against the three that you mentioned and a very questionable loss to Margo.

He clearly beat Mosely, although i know you have a diffrent oppinion and view on this fight.

He was beating the **** out of Margarito until the later part of the fight, just maybe thats because the plaster hardened.

The fight with Clottey was close but he had a 4 inch cut over his left eye from the third round on, had he not suffered that injury it would have been a wide UD for Cotto.

in other words you see the glass half empty and i see it as half full.

But oppinions are like assholes, and the only thing that matters at this point is that 45 minutes on the night of November 14th, 2009. If he wins that night, like i expect him too; Will you reconsider you oppinion about him? :good

 

i agree people are under-estimating cotto. But its all good - everyone will find out the truth nov 14th when pac is laying on his back.

 

Before his fight with Margo, almost everyone would've pick Cotto to beat Pac. However, Cotto is the decided underdog in this fight. This let's me know that the betting public, in general, sees the glass as half full when it comes to Cotto.

 

I'm sorry, but I didn't see Cotto outboxing Margo for six rounds. He definately outboxed him round 1, but that's about it. The rest of time, Margo was slowly breaking him down. Cotto took a good amount of damage in every round after round 1, although I still scored the 3rd, 4th and 5th rounds for him. I don't believe the Mosley fight was a great performance by Cotto. When your opponent is landing that many powershots on you, you did not perform great. Regardless of the cut against Clottey, he still didn't look good at all. Maybe he would've looked good with no cut, maybe he wouldn't have. I can't assume.

 

A very talented boxer, all the stick he gets amazes me, but i assume it's just down too tribal affiliations & anything else just shows **** knowlege of boxing:smoke

 

we both know that the "betting" public in general is not the smartest group as a collective, they been wrong on many occasions, like with Trinidad vs Hopkins what was that 3-1 ridiculous

thats when we hardcore boxing fans come into play, to clear **** up for them

 

I'm a fan of Cotto since 2007, the guy is very fun to watch.. dude has a lot of heart and skills. He'll give Pac his toughest fight ever that's a guarantee.:good

 

Ok, thats a bit harsh. You either just don't like the guy or simply see his performances through different eyes and that's fair enough, everyone has their opinion. Lets be serious here though, Cotto was destroying Margo in the first half of the fight. Yes Margo landed some shots, but **** Cotto was boxing the socks of him. Yes he did perform great against Mosley, defeating his speed and power, his two main weapons. As with the cut, no one can really judge, because Cotto couldn't perform 100%, but he carried on, pulled out the win.
