Rubin Carter vs Joey Giardello

I had Joey up but it wasnt as clear as I first remembered it. Maybe my memory distorted that because I was pissed about how the movie made the fight out to be.

A late rally from Giardello clinched it for me...but in reality there wasnt to much in it.

How that movie portrayed it was poor form though.

 

The old wizard Joey Giardello had, along with his title winning fight just previously, his best performance in this one with Carter. He trotted out all his tricks and strategems for winning a very much deserved 15 rounder. Damn all revisionist modern day "film makers" like whoever made "Hurricane" and Opie for his atrocious character assasination job on Max Baer in his worthless film.

 

Giardello wins hands down.

 

Haven't watched it in a while but I remember not having any qualms about anyone scoring it for Carter. Joey G was still cagey and formidable in '65 but he was more or less running on fumes at that point in his career. The movie was obviously bull**** but it was definitely a hard fight to score.

 

Giardello, at the top of his game, would UD the Hurricane, esp. if he could also do it to Dick Tiger.

 

Scored it for Giardello, close fight, but I think Joey clinch it in the end.

The movie was bs for the most part in regards to Carter's boxing run.

 

Could easily have gone either way.Giardello was past his best and his reflexes had faded considerably.Carter really gave him a going over on the inside at times, though Giardello came into the fight well in the second half.

It's beyond me how anyone could think this was a masterclass from giardello or a robbery.

 

Giardello won clearly by UD

 

Raging Bull and Sweet Scientist also had it very close if i remember correctly.

seems like we can all agree Carter wasn't robbed at least.

 

The scene in the movie completely over exaggerates what really happen. He was basically beating the guy to complete pulpatsch
