Not likely right away as he will have some ring rust to shake off after the inactivity. But I suppose he will get sharper as he fights more.
I'm not sure he'll be rusty, I mean sanctioned fights aren't the only way to stay active in boxing. Floyd proved that a few weeks ago, he stayed active in the gym/sparring, and came out looking good as ever after 18 months. Now I'm NOT comparing Povetkin and Floyd based on natural athletic ability. But I'm saying he can do the same and come off the layoff looking good and fresh because I'm sure he's been in the gym nonstop this whole time. I mean he's a career fighter, an Olympian, long amateur background, I don't he has anything else to be doing besides training.
Fair enough. I will give you that. And Atlas is gonna be on his ass this whole time to lose some weight and stay in the gym, which is a plus, so maybe he won't be as rusty as I would have thought previously. Only time will tell.
I wonder which approach he will take-the Moorer approach of yelling at your fighter to inspire them, or the Grant approach of yelling at your fighter and contributing to their downfall and ruined career...

No,I don't think so.He looks fast like always. I think he needs a good opponnet to get himself motivated like with Byrd,Donald or Chambers. The Sykes fight was terrible.Taurus was a clown in there,he just waned a paycheck.
I agree, I still think a fight with Arreola would be good for him (or potentially Arreola). It would be a big fight for both guys.
No, it's just a temporary result of him being unmotivated and inactive. He has always said he has a tough time getting up for fights that aren't steps up and that's what's happening. The Klitschko fight didn't happen because of the injury, so his team has basically put his career on hold until the Wlad fight gets signed again. Dumb decision since they should just be keeping him active against someone like a Thompson or Dimitrenko, but whatever. Povetkin still beats both Klitschko's at his best IMO. **** the HW division for now. It's better than it was a few years back, but it's still a joke and a mess.
Povetkin should fight someone as soon as possible. His last two fight with Sykes and Estrada did not do him any favor. Those fights were completely useless. Then the story with Atlas. He should stop waiting and face some good opponents.
Povetkin at his best has very good hand speed. I think Povetkin needs to get down to 215-218. He's a little too heavy.
