Where do people stand on the Morales vs Pacquiao II weight issue?

i believe the same way, morales should be given credit for his win against pac, no question. He earned it no doubt. All im saying is that we need to take into consideration that the main reason morales won was due to stylistic advantage, not because morales was the better fighter overall, and the argument 'old, shopworn fighter beat an absolute prime monster' should be thrown out in the bin. I still think that MP's era is quite different with EM's era (when it comes to their prime) and we might never know who will win if both are in their absolute peak. I hold them both in high regard.

 

Morales showed in the third Barrera fight that he wasn't the same fighter, that'll probably be why Pacquiao's handlers were certain of a victory.

Morales spoiled the party, though.

 

Pacquiao was indeed a monster at that point in time. Ordinary fighters do not walk all over Barrera, and flatten Marquez three times in one round. It just doesn't happen. Morales should get all the praise in the world for pulling that out of the bag, because Pacquiao was viewed as one of the best fighters in the world - with Erik on the slide. Pacquiao would only go on to improve into an even better fighter, and that's to his credit.

despite being past prime (or weigh drained), morales was able to pull off an upset over pac, because he was able to use his advantage in order to give pac a classic beating. a mark of a great fighter, a remarkable achievement, morales victory should not be denied. i'm with you on that.

 

Morales was past his prime way before '05 in my estimation, but that's not to say he still wasn't a force to be reckoned with. The first Pacquiao fight was a competitive equation, and there's no doubt the cut hindered Manny's ability to focus. Everything fell into place for Morales, and even though I'm a Barrera fan, I'm really happy for him that he got that one more big win before suffering loss after loss. All fighters experience it one day.

 

yup, and thats why when he went to 135 he did great! he was definitely out powered in that fight, just like how he outsized Pac in the first fight.

Well, depends on how you look at it...I'm not a hater....but his resume from 135+ is average to a little bit above average IMO.....its not spectacular by any means.....d. diaz, a past it oscar, and a weathered hatton......the bulk of pacquiao's hall of fame resume is the first barrera fight through the second marquez fight.....that is "vintage" pacquiao against his best competition...and I'm being as objective as I can...

 

bull****.... hatton can be considered as one of BIG footnotes on pac's career. TBH he had a good run before losing to pac.

The 3rd fight EM was in great condition. If you recall he hired a strength and conditioning coach for the first time and was said to be in his very best physical condition ever. Arum and his trainer felt it was necessary to seek a nutritionist and strenght/conditioning coach to get the most out of EM and EM looked RIPPED and primed for that rubber match.

 

its a note, but the people that state the hatton win as a top 3 win for manny is a hugger.......

I like ricky he is one of my favorite fighters, but that guy was horrendously depleted, it is very similar to the 3rd morales fight....

 

after the lost to morales... he went on a mexican beating spree.
