Which boxer has had the best career whilst using just one dimension and lacking a plan b? Pavlik was a champ with his jab, jab, right style, before getting demolished by Hopkins. Hatton was very successful with his punch and maul. Wlad with his jab, clinch, jab, clinch... Which fighter has been the most successful in history with similar oneD tactics?
One-dimensional is hard to define. Because if it's a boxer spending his whole career fighting under the same style and using the same weapons and stuff, then Roy Jones Jr. should fall under that category. Who said fighting in one dimension can't be absolutely awesome? 'One-dimentional' is not equal with 'limited'. Jones, probably the most naturally gifted fighter ever, always relied on gifts such as reflexes, speed advantage and athleticism, using them with trademark hooks to deliver flashy stuff. But you could see as he faded, he still used the same stuff and failed miserably. The speed post-Tarver and pre-Tito was still pretty good compared to others, as well the power and reflexes, but he failed to come up with and kind of style change, and he couldn't get away with stuff he used to. Now post-Tito he seems to understand he's aging and looks like he's adjustiing his style a bit, but as I've said, he spent his career fighting under that one awesome dimention - so I'd say he's the best dimentional fighter I've ever seen. Obviously, if 'one-dimentional' means 'limited', Roy Jones doesn't fall under that category. But it's a misleading term. Hatton is one-dimentional but also very limited. Wlad is not one-dimetional but limited by the current tactics he uses under Steward. Pavlik is one-dimentional, but pretty damn hard to beat him in that dimention.
I would like to know how people define one dimensional to begin with and what exactly are the different dimensions to boxing from what people post apparently there's only 2(They box on the outside or they're a great inside fighter at best according to most they can only be dual dimensional). Describing a fighter as one dimensional is IMO a dumb way to look at fighters It's like lets dis-regard all the different elements of their game and skill they have a come forward style there one dimensional - anyhow by that mentality Henry Armstrong many people's #2 p4p best fighter of all time was the best "one dimensional" fighter of all time and Joe Frazier deserves honorable mention. The one dimensional category seems to give no credit to head movement, cutting off the ring, counter-punching, upper body movement, footwork, using angles, timing, placing shots, shoulder rolls, picks, defense in general I don't like hearing the one dimensional argument it's a vary narrow way of looking at fighters usually pressure fighters and it seems to suggest their limited when they're usually anything but.
one dimensional...one that was used to doing the same move and cannot adapt to an opponents style... mike tyson? i dunno...
