I personaly think Ward and Dirrell are in over their heads at this level. Dirrell's best win was Oganov who got sparked by Zuniga who clearly does not belong at 168. Ward's best win was Miranda who lost all his important fights. However, the fact that they may very well prove me wrong, and rise to the occassion. adds an element of drama to the tourney that would not be there without them. Very interesting:think Thoughts?
I'll be surprised if Dirrell loses to Froch. I would be surprised if Ward lost to Kessler by a significant margin.
I feel Dirrell and Ward will do great in this tournament. However, I could be wrong as well. One may do well and one may fail terribly. They are even staged to fight each other in the third stage. You put it perfectly...will they rise to the occasion? One thing for sure, after this first round of fights, a LOT of people on ESB will be hiding their head in the sand.
I think Froch should TKO Dirrell. Too inexperienced, he is in the habit of backing up too easily against lesser opposition, if he can't hold his ground against them he is going to be in for a very big shock when he gets in with someone world class, he will find himself getting pinned on the ropes if he isn't very careful. With that said he has the traits to give Froch trouble, just not the intangibles. Froch TKOs him late.
I agree, though I think Ward will have a better outing in the tournament than Dirrell simply because he is better. Dirrell is exciting but will will likely be beating by Froch, imo.
I think Dirrell has the tools to win against Froch, I just get this devastating vision of Dirrell pulling straight back with his hands down and Froch, being the smart fighter that he is, timing him.
I think Direll has what it takes to beat Froch but not Ward...He lacks toughness IMO and it will costs him...Kessler late tko in a competitive fight...
You might be right but I was thinking just the opposite. I think Ward will upset Kessler. Dirrell I'm worried about.
This is a common misconception of Ward I've noticed people have, that he lacks toughness. He's tough as hell. What are you basing this on?
I agree. He has yet to show his full arsenal, heart, conditioning and toughness. It is all there, he just hasn't been forced to show it yet.
Okay, now let me play the "glass half empty" guy. Prosepcts and young contenders fail far more often than they succeed. Young fighters often look stunning against journeyman and guys off the "C" list. Then they catch a break, get a big fight, and a world class opponent hands them their ass.
Early in his carrer he struggled against mediocre opposition...I know that he looked good in his last couples of fights but I've a feeling that against a true legitimate threat like Kessler his bad habits and lack of physical strength will show up...Ward may win the firsts rounds but Kessler will slowly break him as the fight goes on...
