Look at the guys that have retired recently: Danny Williams Matt Skelton Clinton Woods Joe Calzaghe Michael Gomez Guys who might retire soon: Jon Thaxton Carl Johanneson Dean Francis Ricky Hatton Graham Earl Our top performers at World level in recent years are on the list as well as some quality domestic operators. I'm sure I've missed a off few as well. Thoughts?
It's only really the world class ones that are a concern, because it takes a special talent to get that far and they don't grow on trees... The domestic fighters listed have been great servants but guys come along and beat them and take their place. Kev Mitchell has replaced Johannesson, Murray has replaced Thaxton, Cleverly and Bellew are coming through to replace Francis. Hopefully some of these guys make it to the world stage too.
So that's Hatton and Joe really? Clinton I suppose. We've a few on the way through but genuine world class, I dunno, you can't tell until they step up Khan is now 'world class' and Moore might soon join him In the medium term Brook and Cleverly should go far
There was a thread a while back saying Skelton had retired. Francis should retire but I don't think there's been an official announcement. Thaxton said he would retire after the Murray fight tonight but in the post fight interview he said he might continue.
lol so do I Sad for Carl, great lad, involved in good fights all the time and should be getting more recognition
Im glad they've all retired, everyone of them were domestic level fighters .. We can do better than them .. Real fighters who arent either failures at top level (Williams, Woods) or micro-managed so that they never faced anybody that wasnt over the hill (Calzaghe) .... Who the hell gets enjoyment from watching Woods, Skelton, Earl, Williams and Thaxton fight ... ?? Clinton Woods should be regarded as the worst fighter ever to hold a 'World Title' .. He was worse than Richie Woodhall and thats saying something !! Im on 'spotify' listening to some Prince classics like 'Cream', 'Little Red Corvette', 'Get Off' and 'Raspberry Beret' ......... This is perfect music to listen to while destroying boxing arguments !! Anyone know what happened to Prince ?? He had grooooooove !!
the biggest problem for British boxing in the future is the lack of coverage, in terms of talent/grass roots/fighters coming threw then the futures bright because they'll be alotta fighters to fill that british/euro void and we'll always get a couple who'll make it to world level, problem is will they get the exposure and pub, i think the sport is stuck in a quagmire at the minute in that sense.
That's the right attitude Loved watching all these guys over the years But I'm itching to see Brook and Froch and Haye all the others fight again
