Ultimate Fighting Championship president Dana White made no secret of his disdain for Slices abilities and for the way the now-defunct Elite XC promoted him. But lo and behold, after Slice accepted an offer to appear on Season 10 of The Ultimate Fighter, the UFC is exhibiting much the same behavior that Elite XC and promoter Gary Shaw were so roundly criticized for. After generating record ratings for the Season 10 opener, the Slice marketing push from the UFC has kicked into overdrive. White has already said Slice will fight again in the UFC, regardless of the outcome of the show. That may indicate that Slice fares better than expected in the show, but it runs counter to the way White has handled other TUF fighters. He has given contracts to fighters who didnt win on TUF, but it came after the season, not just two weeks in. Slice will face former International Fight League champion Roy Nelson on Wednesday in a show the UFC and Spike TV are pushing so hard that they held a conference call with Slice on Monday. Theyre touting it as the biggest fight in TUF history, which is saying a mouthful since White himself credits the TUF 1 finale between Stephan Bonnar and Forrest Griffin with saving the company. Unless Slice somehow defeats Nelson and I cant see how he can its extremely hypocritical of White to give Slice a second shot in the UFC based simply on his popularity. If Slice wins and defeats Nelson, who is my pick to win the season and earn the UFC contract, then giving him a contract to fight in the UFC is fine. Other than that, though, giving him a contract is buying into the marketing hype that White so venomously ripped Elite XC for. If Slice loses and proves not to be a capable mixed martial artist, putting him in the UFC regardless would bring to mind the infamous quote made many years ago by boxing promoter Bob Arum: Yesterday, I was lying. Today, Im telling the truth. Finally
what do you call that policeman that beat Kimbo Guien or Gunn or something didnt he get a fight in the UFC because he had beaten Kimbo .....the cop got destroyed like but his only reason for getting the fight was because he had beat Kimbo
I was thinking the exact same thing. When Kimbo started MMA and Dana mocked him and elitexc. It was clear back then that eventually Kimbo would make it to the UFC. THe world loves a no nonsense tough guy, tons of money to be made off of him...
Sean Gannon. He was a Boston policeman. Hinkle ****ed him up. Not entirely sure why Dana thought it was a good idea to get him in the UFC because he was **** from the get go.
That gannon couldn't throw a punch if his life depended on it, he simply smothered and gased kimbo out. But at least he was the first to stop Kimbo's hype train.
This is shocking news. Are you saying that when Kimbo was fighting for a competing organization, Dana criticized him, but then changed his tune when Kimbo signed for TUF and became available to make White money? I'm stunned Dana would flip flop like that. It's so unlike him.
Why? Dana said the only way Kimbo would get into the UFC is through TUF. And guess what that's exactly what he is doing going through TUF...how is that a flip flop? He didn't make him the main event like Shaw did. kimbo is good for TUF because the show is getting dull and needed something different to get peoples interest and Kimbo is perfect for that.
You are correct. I was being intentionally sarcastic as Dana is not know for consistency in some of the things he says. It's not a flip flop if Dana does not give Kimbo any more fights in the UFC. However, there's talk that Kimbo will fight in the octagon on Dec. 5. How is Kimbo losing his first fight on TUF warrant another bout when all Dana has ever done before this is talk **** about him? If Dana was true to his word, shouldn't he kick Kimbo to the curb? He had his chance on TUF and lost. Or I guess Dana should have said "the only way Kimbo will ever get in the UFC is through TUF, even if he loses his first and only fight." White knows as well as Elite XC did that Kimbo is a draw, regardless of his talent level. That's why he'll get another bout in the UFC.
It a flip flop because Dana White did nothing but bash him. Called him crap, a fake fighter, a thug. Then all of a sudden he brings him into the UFC for the Reality Show. That just makes the reality show look 3rd rate because Dana is bringing in crappy fighters, thugs and fake fighters. Obviously, Dana has always done this for the sake of ratings but it certainly looks bad when its so obvious.
Considering Kimbo has ZERO MMA credentials and no fighting skills to speak of what makes him suitable to appear on TUF? O one minute i know he puts bums on seats!! TUF is crap. Has always been crap and will continue to be crap. Dana is a charlatan. He's nothing more than a used car salesman. Dont try and spin it otherwise.
He said " The only way Kimbo would get into the UFC is through TUF" He is doing exactly that, what kind of spin can I put on that? I doesn't matter what he said about him or anything else. I mentioned in my post that TUF was getting dull and needed a jolt, read my post before you get your Dana vodoo doll out.
Yes, but the question now is does Kimbo deserve to fight again in the UFC despite losing his first and only bout in TUF? One would think Dana meant that he needs to be successful in TUF to make it into the UFC. If that's not the case, then he could have just as easily bypassed TUF and put Kimbo on the undercard of a UFC PPV or Fight Night.
