He beat Vitali. That is like the people who say "Manny Pacquiao is afraid of Juan Manuel Marquez" If they already fought once or twice it is a matter of motivation loss or search of a higher payday. Lewis did not even take Vitali seriously. Still TKO'd him.
Lennox would have blown all the so-called 1970s and 80s US "greats" out of the water. By achievement, Lewis is easily a Top 10 HW ATG. On an individual head-to-head comparison I don't see how any 70s or 80s HW fighter could beat a top conditioned Lewis.
So he's 44. and overweight. un-motivated? so did he go up to waldimir after the brock fight and tryed make a fight date with him?? MORON!!!!
lmfao someone is a little pissed off that lewis ripped vitaliz face up with his awesome power and forced the ref to stop the fight to PROTECT vitali from continuing to fight on with a vision problem that would have made it very difficult for him to continue into the next round successfully CONSIDERING that the very ****ING LAST round of that FIGHT marked the POINT whereby lewis started timing vitali really well and then of course started CONNECTING some HUGE shotz onto vitali's face which OH BOY happened to be the reason why the ref stopped the fight between roundz this lewis debate crackz me right up first of all im a big vitali klit fan no doubt second of all im a big lewis fan no doubt third of all lewis waz such a ALL TIME GREAT heavyweight that even his victoriez are critized FACT: vitali klit came into round one against lewis and instantly began taking the fight to lewis and showed us something that no other heavywieght had been previously able to show us before and that waz that vitali for the first few roundz waz able to beat lewis from the outside and from distance which lewis had previously never had to deal with before that time as all the other big fighterz he had previously faced had not had the ability to CONTROL lewis from distance. FACT: lewis took some huge shots that wobbled him and when lewis got wobbled by vitali, lewis did exactly what makez him a ALL TIME GREAT HEAVYWEIGHT champion. lewis reached down deep into his belief in himself and he began to FOCUS. FACT: while lewis waz still dazed and confused from taking some big solid shotz to his head from vitali, lewis began to fight threw the confusion and over the course of the next few roundz beginz to start timing vitali much better and gradually starts to land more and more HUGE SOLID shotz onto vitali's head and face. shotz that obviously start to stun and wobble vitali. FACT: the very last round of the fight lewis beginz to trade straight up with vitali and beginz to go to war with vitali as he is confident NOW that if he goes to war with vitali now that he has TIMED him vitali will fall first. in this LAST ROUND lewis landz some HUGE punches on vitali's face and in this round vitali's face beginz to turn into absoulute HAMBURGER. in this round lewis looks very tired however in this round lewis looks very confident and very pissed off at vitali and very determined. FACT: as vitali slowly walkz back to his corner after the last round of the fight i remember saying to myself, "**** lewis has vitali's timing down now and therefore the last round i just watched whereby lewis pulverized vitali's face with his fistz is going to be nothing compared to the next round of this fight as NOW vitali's vision is going to be impaired RIGHT at the time whereby lewis has already begun TIMING vitali. FACT: no ref in the world that waznt on the mafiaz payroll could have looked at vitali's mangled eye and judged that vitali waz fit to continue fighting. FACT: lewis wins the fight with a tko FACT: vitali being the warrior he is wants to continue fighting FACT: fighterz that have been counted out desire to continue fighting FACT: the fight is over because the REF has judged that vitali must be PROTECTED from further PUNISHMENT from the fists of lennox lewis FACT: the people and fanz were so shocked that vitali hung in there with lewis so admirably for the first 4 or so roundz winning the majority of them that they instantly became DISSAPPOINTED that the ref had PROTECTED vitali when they desired to see what would have happened come the next round especially after they see vitali stand up and exclaim that he is fit to keep fighting as the roar from the crowd eruptz at that very POINT. FACT: there waz no next round due to the fact that lewis in the previous round hammered vitali with so many powerful solid shotz that vitali's left eye began to close and the ref did his job and stopped the fight to protect vitali from any further damage of the kind of damage that he just recieved in the last round of the fight FACT: people still believe that lewis ran away from a rematch with vitali because they choose to only remember the first 4 roundz of the fight and the excitment they created when vitali waz winning the majority of the first 4 roundz and conviently forget that the last round before the fight waz stopped lewis began KICKING vitali's ass so badly he turned vitali's face into hamburger
very much agree with you that by achievment lewis is a top 10 heavy for sure personally i think although itz hypothetical and obviously very unrealiztic to picture what WOULD have happened if fighterz from one era went head to head against fighterz from another era as well i feel that the fighterz from the OLDER era alwayz get the short end of the stick due to the fact that alot of the trickz of their trade they used to BEAT the fighterz they did back in their day have ALREADY been exposed and studied by the fighterz in the future so not even taking the size increase into account while trying to rate the heavyz of past and present we have a UNFAIRNESS based on knowing little peices of information such as , "foreman waz fell right into ali's trap with the rope a dope and believed that his huge shots were having a much bigger effect on ali then they were as ali PRETENDED and ACTING like they were effecting him much more then they were. thus foreman like the idiot he is continues to unload wide powerful blowz at ali and completely fatigues himself all the while believing that he is gradually destroying ali in the process right up until the point that ali springz off the ropes SHOWz foreman that he just FOOLED him for the previous few roundz and then watches as foreman looses his confidence instantly when he becomez AWARE that ali has LOTz left in his tank and he has NOTHING left in his tank" yeah so as time continues to flow forward many of these tricks that were successful in the past become exposed for the fighterz in the future. HOWEVER if we forget about all that and just focus on what would happen if the fighterz of the 70's and 80's met lewis at each of their primez, well in that case i would have to agree with you again that i dont see how any of the 70's and 80's fighterz could beat a top conditioned lewis. he is just too dam big with too dam much speed and technique IMO
Fact Lennox Lewis best wins came against a washed up Holyfield and a washed up Tyson Fact Lennox Lewis was knocked out 2 times by 1 punch by 3rd rate fighters. Fact Lennox Lewis is highly overrated, A prime Holyfield and prime Mike Tyson would knocked him out Fact my mom could knock Lennox Lewis out.
Behave. Lewis dominated one of the strongest era's in HW history, beat everyman he went in the ring with, and had the size, mobility, skill, deceptive speed, power and durability to beat ANYBODY. Yes, anybody. I don't care whether it's Ali, Tyson, Louis, Holmes, Johnson, Jeffries, Foreman, Marciano or whoever, Lewis on his night had the capabilities to beat them all. And why isn't he an ATG heavyweight? You sit here and tell me that guys like Holmes or Marciano had stronger resumés.
He was smart and retired at the right time, if he had fought on he would not have the great resume and legacy he has today. That's fact.
The only thing I didn't like about Lewis was the WAY he retired. He took way too long trying to make up his mind. Asking Vitali for Doctor's statements if he's fit to fight, etc. etc. and then after Vitali beat Kirk Johnson and got all the Doctor's approvals, Lennox went into hiding. The WBC released a statement he has to face Vitali or relinquish his belt and only THEN did Lewis retire. That was seriously unworthy of him. He held on to the belt like a little *****, then later he was coaching Sanders on "how to beat Vitali" as if he was bothered if Vitali won "his" belt. This all left a sour aftertaste IMO. He could have shown some class and taken 3, 4 or maybe 5 months to make up his mind and simply say "Ok folks, I'm retired. Been fun, but I've done what I had to do. I have nothing left to prove. Time for others to take over". 12 months of playing mind games damaged his reputation IMO.
Lewis's era is very overated, when he won his title back against McCall he fought the following fighters:- Akinwande Golota Briggs Mavrovic Holyfield x2 Grant Botha Tua Rahman x2 Tyson Vitali. With the exception of Holyfield and obviously Vitali, who are the great fighters in this resume that **** all over the current level of fighters at the moment? (im not counting Tyson as the guy was a stone too heavy and he only turned up for the pay check).
