Patterson isn't exactly known for his durability, though. In fact, now that you mention it, i think Klitschko would knock Patterson out in a single round as well, if he fights aggressive.

And Machen won only a couple of rounds from what i've read. I've only seen 15 minutes of highlights from that fight, but Liston still got the unanimous decision despite several point deductions. That doesn't compare to a draw that Williams had.

I don't really understand the comparison with Langford either. We know perfectly well (except for film) that Langford held up well vs the best of his era. Langford was small and extremely durable. Williams was big and had a glass
    chin.

He probably would, since Patterson has a come-forward style. I still don't see him getting out of the three rounds, though.

Vitali Klitschko and Williams don't have that much in common at all. Vitali is an underachiever due to injuries and kickboxing. Vitali gave a good account of himself in his losses. Williams got knocked out early. Vitali beat contenders. Williams didn't. Terrel wasn't ranked when he beat him.

This is an interesting one, both these guys' main weakness was that they were both chinny (Wlad especially). Ability-wise Wlad is certainly the better fighter of the two, but Williams had serious power at times if he should engineer an opening for a big shot Wlad would be in serious trouble.

Still, I'd say Wlad by late-round TKO, outboxing him for large spell.

*Patterson vs Wlad Klitchko? I'd take Patterson to win via brutal mid-round Kayo, Floyd's skill, hand speed, power and movement would be too much for W.Klit to handle. :good

    Fair enough.

By the way, i don't think Wlad's handspeed is far below Floyd's. He has incredibly fast hands. P4p one of the fastest.

    Bump.

This is from two years ago, I'm curious how people pick this today. I think Williams has a live shot here, he has one of the fastest left hooks in Heavyweight history in my opinion and would be game enough to force Wlad to fight.

Terell is the same height as Wlad and Williams performed well against him, so it's not like Williams has never fought as the shorter man (although Wlad obviously is much more powerful than the stringbean Terell) Interesting fight.

It's a simple one. Williams has a chance but will probably lose. This is more to do with who Wlad is than who Williams is.

The only puncher with serious speed that Wlad has ever faced is Corrie Sanders, and Williams is just as fast or faster. That's a fact.

I do think that Wlad has changed for the better since Sanders in terms of minimizing his chances of losing. He is fighting with a perfect gameplan considering the quality and mostly styles of his opposition. However I question as to whether fighting not to lose which he is doing is the right gameplan against guys like Big Cat that are there to fight and have the right tools to succeed.

I really don't think that the current era is poor that we're in (and it's really, really heating up now). There just hasn't been any dangerous punchers with skills or speed since Wlad has been the top dog. Byrd is an excellent fighter but isn't probably going to beat a skilled SHW (short of a fluke win like Vitali)
The scene is changing though with Haye and guys like Boystov, I'm really looking forward to the next few years because it'll be exciting and answer some of my questions about Wlad. I think Wlad is a borderline top 25 HW right now, but he still has to prove imo that he can beat a quality puncher with speed before I pick him with certainty over Williams.

Corrie Sanders was whacked out by Nate Tubbs.

I don't count Cleveland's loss to Satterfield as much. He was young, inexperienced and brought in as the opponent on a short notice.

The Liston fights are telling, in that he has great power and speed but perhaps lacking in durability. He would be dangerous for Wladimir.

Williams power is overrated. He never knocked out anybody worth noting. Wlad is the same way, never knocked out anybody worth typing about.

Calling Satterfield hardhitting is a bit of an understatement

Satterfield is another one of these old school fighters who get built up to be something but in reality they were nothing. Satterfield is a hard puncher like like Tye Fields is a hard puncher. Knocking out stiffs but when they face a person who fights back they get knocked out. Well at least Tye Fields knockout percentage is high.

Anyway, If Cleveland Williams came into the fight and threw any punches at Wlad he would win. Wlad can't handle pressure. He only looks good when the opponent isnt fighting back.
