"One of the central ironies of watching a boxer such as Mayweather is the realisation that, if he faced the majority of his challengers in a dark alley, he would have his head ripped off. He is not a man who exudes strength or brute power. Only under the Queensberry Rules, enforced by a boxing establishment that continues to regard him with a combination of fascination and fear, can Mayweather dismantle his opponents like a child removing the wings of a butterfly"

So basically, Floyd doesn't punch as hard as other top boxers. Is this supposed to be some type of revelation?

not a good quote. Just because Floyd fights like that in the ring doesn't neccesarily mean he will try and do a philly shell in a streetfight as opposed to kicking his opponent in the nuts.

Maybe/maybe not on the dark alley. Whatever. Could say the same thing about Ali and a number of his opponents. Big deal. It's a mild irony at best.

The "fascination/fear" of the "boxing establishment" (does that mean GBP? HBO?) is overstated. Guy has an act to sell tickets, the "establishment" knows that. The dad/uncle on the other hand, are potential disasters for anyone involved with them, capable of taking the "any publicity is good publicity" to a breaking point.

What a dumb quote. Floyd is a boxer. Boxing has certain rules, and he fights within those rules. In no way should he be expected to win a fight in a dark alley.

Sounds like an MMA quote. Anyway, I think Floyd would kick all kinds of ass in a dark alley.

    Thats just it..

Boxing used to be respected by the average joe off the street...

    It is loosing it's respect..

When Mike Tyson was world heavyweight champion, he was not just a boxer...

He was the baddest man on the planet..!

Now in 2010, the face of boxing..

Sorry to say it, is a boring...negative Floyd Mayweather.

    Boxing is dead..
