Bill is one of my favorite posters on ESB, but he can't be taken all that seriously when discussing Marco. He's openly admitted to hating the guy, on multiple occasions. Morales II, he see's, as almost a clinic on the part of Morales. What it was in reality was a cautious, disappointing affair whether neither fighter dominated or landing many significant blows. Barrera was favored in a closely fought fight, much like their effort in 2000. I don't see a robbery, not at all.
A robbery it wasn't, but I had Morales winning, scoring loosely in my head. Marco gave away too many early rounds and was too passive for the first half of the fight. He came on strong towards the latter half of the fight, but for me he was always playing catchup. I do agree it was not a patch on the first fight for excitement or drama though.
I had it a draw. Not a lot of fights are a patch on the first fight though, but at least they made a great fight for their last effort. :good
Barrera deserved the 3rd fight more than Morales but on a round by round basis, I scored 6 rds each... Barrera won the clearest rd tho, rd 6 & was 2 pts ahead with 2 rds to go on my card, Morales edged 11 & 12 by the skin of his teeth so all in all if it wasnt to be a draw, the right man got it. Fight 2, I gave Morales 8 rds, Barrera was always there but I cant see how he even scrapes a draw from this one, seriously, Erik won that fight. Fight 1 was the hardest to score... the best fight of all time... & to me, there wasnt any loser in that one, again, seriously.... both winners that night. :good
Boxing was the overall winner here, but I had Barrera winning that one. Amazing fight, however you score it.
Outstanding fight... one that put those 2 where they belonged... a part of history & among the A+ of the current fighters.
Agreed, the first fight was a blatant robbery and even Morales biggest fan says 'it could have gone either way'. The second fight could have gone either way but it wasnt the robbery its made out to be. The third was close but clear
Come on PowerPuncher, when you score it round by round, it's very close. Round 1 - Barrera Round 2 - Barrera Round 3 - Morales Round 4 - Morales Round 5 - Morales Round 6 - Barrera Round 7 - Barrera Round 8 - Barrera Round 9 - Barrera Round 10 - Morales Round 11 - Morales Round 12 - Barrera 7-5 Barrera. The knockdown was bull****. Round 9 could have gone to Morales, but I thought Barrera hurt Morales on 3 seperate occasions so I gave it to him. There was also not a lot in rounds 6 and 11. I always thought Round 1 could have gone either way too. Barrera got the best of the first minute, but after that, he doesn't really land anything.
Me ? Why, thank you PowerPuncher :good Ps. Ya`ll gonna have to rewatch that 2nd fight again tho.... for real.
The second fight was close and uneventful Bill, don't try and make it out to be some kind of Boxing lesson. Even Morales' fans don't go back and watch this one to often.
Mine`s was.... 1. MAB 2. MAB 3. EM 4. EM 5. EM 6. EM 7. EM 8. MAB 9. EM 10. EM 11. MAB 12. MAB Too many close debateable rds to call this a robbery, it was basically a tough to score, 50/50 type fight... an excellent one at that. :good
You gave round 7 and 9 to Morales, whereas I gave them to Barrera because he hurt Morales in both rounds. In round 7, he landed the big right hand on the ropes, before that unbelievable exchange to end the round. All three shots land flush on Morales jaw, and he bends over...almost going down but then just gets the strength to throwback. My favorite moment in the entire fight. In round 9, Barrera lands the big combination and Morales goes to the corner - obviously hurt. He then strafes him on the ropes again, but from there on it's all Morales so I can see why you gave him the round. I would have too if it wasn't for the spectacular 3 punch combination Barrera lands at the end. My second favorite moment in the entire fight, you just don't see combo's landed flush like that at the very top level of this sport. Incidentally, Rounds 7,8, 9, and 10 were all amazing! :happy
Not a boxing lesson but a definite win, you can see the expression in Marco`s face throughout, he was frustrated because Morales was keeping it at range. I actually thought it was a good fight, probably because I never expected a re-run of their 1st one like most fans did.
I thought Morales plain outlanded MAB in rd 7, he outlanded him in rd 9 too & your right, the 3 punch combo can either level or edge the rd to Barrera, not a lot in it. Your dead right too with that left hook to the jaw Barrera lands on Morales with about 6 secs to go in rd 7 :admin... ****in pin point, how Morales took that **** I will never know... best punch of the fight from either guy probably but Erik just landed too many punches all the way thru that one for Marco to steal that rd from him. Ps. Round 5 still gives me goosebumps, a definite Morales rd I thought despite what Lederman & co said. :good
