Let's say Dirrell pulled out with a bad injury and Joe was offered the chance to come out of retirement and take his place. Do you think Joe would win the series? Would he keep his perfect record?

yes and yes, i believe he would be more than happy to try and get down to the 168 limit

I believe he would, I don't think any of them are a huge threat to Calzaghe.

He's already beat Kessler, joint favourite. There is not much reason to think Kessler can overturn it unless Joe lost a step since retirement.

Anybody with eyes knows he beats Carl, Carl has little to worry him such is the talent difference.

I believe he's way too experienced for Dirrell and Ward. They might be fast but Calzaghe's fast and much more seasoned, he'd nullify them.

Taylor just hasn't got what it takes, it might be okay for a few rounds but its pretty obvious Calzaghe's pace gets to him by 4, 5 or 6 rounds and completely sweeps it.

Abraham gets completely outworked and embarrassed, probably the easiest fight of the lot due to the styles involved.

I dont think so. I think by the time of the finals coming around age would have caught up with him.

    Not sure about this.

I saw him perform in an exhibition bout recently and he looked very robotic, his footwork was awful and at times he was getting dominated by his smaller opponent.

    He should stay retired.

Yea but i give Abraham a better chance at KOing Calzaghe than Froch, Kessler, Taylor, Dirrel and Ward.

Its hard to make a case that he wouldn't win it, because he has a good record. But I tend to think someone, somewhere, would beat him. I think Kessler would have a good chance in a rematch, and Abraham could potentially brutalise the Welsh Bum Chaser.

Calzaghe will ruin everything he's worked hard for if he gets exposed.

There's no chance of Calzaghe coming out of retirement to get down to 168... no chance in hell. There's more chance of Ricky Hatton coming back to campaign as a bantamweight than Calzaghe fighting again at 12 stone. For a start he's done everything down there and already beaten the kingpin in Kessler. Secondly, he struggled for many of his 10 years to get down to the SMW limit. Thirdly, by all accounts, he's having a whale of a time since he's been retired and single.

I actually think he's slipped into retirement quite nicely. He seems very content financially and within himself to not think twice about coming back.

However, if he did come back now and fight all of participants, I'd back him to lose at least one of the fights.

Well he successfully managed to quickstep his way around them for 95% of his career.

Abraham would have next to no-chance against Calzaghe. Almost as little chance as Froch.

There is not a chance in hell Joe would ever even agree to participate now although I hardly blame him. He achieved a hell of a lot, and had one terrific career despite not reaching his full potential but he is best off retired. It was the correct time.

I personally think he would get sparked out come the tail end of the tournament. Purely due to age catching up with him. Calzaghe perhaps has 1 or 2 fights left at the very most but the longer he stays out of the ring the harder it would be to shake that ring rust.

    Why would he?

He has everything to lose and nothing to gain. Making 168lbs would probably be very difficult now.

If Calzaghe were to come back (which i don't think he will), my guess would be against a 175lbs title holder, easy payday, a goodbye and another belt.
