I 1st seen this fight about 7 or 8 months ago, Ive seen it several times on youtube & now own it on DVD (cheers Greg :good)... I used to only rank fights between elite ATGs as I dislike lack of technique but these guys were very good fighters & no mugs (not elite like an Arguello as their fights vs Alexis proved but world champ level fighters, just below Alexis)

If anyone hasnt seen this fight in full, you have to watch this, the more I watch it the more I like it... so much so that it has overtook Chacon-Limon 4 on my list (another wonderful fight that only falls short of the Boza fight because it has a clear winner & the Chacon-Boza fight does not + the exchanges are a bit more frequent in the Boza fight too)

My list of 3 best ever fights now looks like this....

    Morales-Barrera I
    Chacon-Boza Edwards II
    Chacon-Limon IV

Ps. Chacon-Boza II would probably be no1 if it wasnt for the technical excellence of EM & MAB.

I taped it off regular TV back in '83 and I still own the tape...... Chacon needed a blood transfusion afterward............. Chacon beat Boza on heart alone........... Chacon was nearing the end at a mere age 31 by the time that fight occured.......

Just as well I seen your original post... `the drama was immense` & `brilliant fight` I believe you said or something similar.

    Very true :good

I bet it never even won the vote for FOTY in 1983, those morons probably gave it to Hagler-Duran or some ****.

Ps. Your right about Bobby Chacon, he was PURE HEART, without doubt.

Well, I was only 4 at the time so I didnt know **** in 83.... but... Boza was bigger, stronger, younger & had won their 1st fight by TKO but it appears that you just could never count Chacon out, you would think that the heart & will he showed in overcoming Rafael Limon a year earlier in that 15 rd war would have been his last great effort - especially after all he`d been thru both inside & outside the ring - but he then goes to produce an even gutsier performance vs Boza if that was possible.

To be fair, I still dont know who won, the fight is so enjoyable I dont want to put the effort in to do a rd by rd, I just want to kick back & enjoy. It was dam close but if you finish as strongly in the last rd like Bobby did in a fight that was very close at that point, nobody can say he didnt deserve the decision even if they had Boza a winner, it was very very close.

    Excellent fight :good

It was FOTY and and in his next fight Chacon was again involved in the FOTY in his fourth fight with Limon.

Ps i got it twisted his fourth fight with Limon was bfore the second Edwards fight.

To really appreciate what Bobby did in this one, it helps to have previously seen their first bout. Schoolboy's championship career seemed to be truly finished after Corny stopped him almost exactly two years earlier.

I've often wondered what kind of record Chacon might have mustered had he combined the conditioning of Limon IV and Boza Edwards II with the talent of his youth. It seems crazy to realize that Mancini was Boom Boom's final victory while Bobby went undefeated over the remaining four years and seven matches of his boxing saga.

Ferdie Pacheco really earned his "Fright Doctor" moniker in this one, and I was delighted to see Schoolboy go on to make him eat his words. The day after, several viewers I spoke with were arguing forcefully that he should have been stopped on cuts. I didn't buy it when Pacheco was bellyaching live for it to end, and I certainly don't buy it now.

Chacon-Boza-Edwards I, was also a war. As well as Boza-Edwards title winning effort against Rafael Limon. Well worth checking out.:deal

Pacheco can **** off he almost ruined the fight for me with all his "this fight should be stopped" BS.

Sometimes when i rewatched the fight i do it with no sound so i dont get to hear that dumbass.

Thats good to know, both fights deserved the award.

I heard the Limon fight won the award in 82 but I also heard Arguello-Pryor got it so thanks for clearing that up... I think Chacon-Limon edged out AA-Pryor myself.
