This is taken from an article by Kevin Mitchell in the Guardian "This is hardly the fighter's fault. He gets in the ring and does the business. It is up to those around him to get him the best deal. Bernard Hopkins supposedly offered Froch £5m for a fight earlier this year yet he is tied to a contract with Showtime worth a fraction of that to fight three times, possibly four, against the best 12-stone fighters in the game." This cannot be right. £5mil is about $7.5mil. Considering HBO were only offering $3mil for the Hopkins vs Adameck fight, where would the rest of the cash come from? Kevin Mitchell is known for getting things mixed up or bending the truth, he claimed last week that Mayweather weighd 20lbs more that Marquez when they were in the ring LOL
The way I read this is that he was just reporting what Marquez said, and it was not a personal opinion.
This is probably from Hopkins somewhere. B-Hop has a very over inflated idea of himself when money is talked about. I doubt the offer was ever actually made and the 'story' was just plain hot air.
This is clearly bollocks. Pavlik only got $3 million. Adamek got lowballed with an offer of less than a million dollars. No way they offered Froch $7.5 million :-(
No way is this true. Froch made the right choice even if there was some kind of offer on the table. Carl would have taken a Pavlik style beating from Hopkins and then where would he be?
There's no way there's £5m in a Hopkins/Froch fight, let alone £5m for Froch. As for Marquez, he stated that he thought there was at least a 20lb advantage for Mayweather when they got in the ring and I don't think he was too far off.
That sounds like bollocks. Hopkins got 3 million US for his fight with Winky Wright, a better known name in the US, on ppv, during better financial times. Why would Froch get double that?
I thought the reason it never was seriously looked into is because Hopkins demanded £5million to fight Froch (not offered Froch 5 mil). And there clearly wasn't that much money in it. I remember that being reported at the time as a rumour (maybe Bunce hour).
I don't believe he was offered £5mil. GBP are not stupid to offer him £5mil off the bat when he ain't even earnt a mil and X wants big money now adays.
