I don't like the Johnson fight as it's the 2nd in a row against a guy with no top-15 names on his ledger. As a "stay busy", it's about as good as can be done, though. Other option: lowball Toney/Briggs/Maskaev and just enjoy beating them up. Yes, they are old, but have at least paid their dues. Tell Johnson to fight an eliminator and come back then. Also: I know Povetkin is off the table, but why Chambers? If Wlad's out past year end, does Chambers want to be inactive that long? Does he want to fight WK that much more than VK? It does look like K2 wants Chambers for Wlad only and it doesn't seem fair to Chambers (I see Chambers isn't ranked by IBF, but that's just nonsense; K2 could wave a wand and change that).

I'd like to see a chambers/vitaly fight pulled off in light of Wlad's time off. But as for Toney/Briggs/Maskaev, none of those guys are any more deserving than johnson IMO. At least Johnson has beaten a live body in Vargas recently. The guys u mentioned haven't even done that in well over a year (or two in some cases). Maskaev and Toney could be permanently injured too. Briggs needs some tune ups but probably will be hopeless also but he's probably near 325 lbs right now
A disgrace the sport for signing to fight Vitali?, that's a new one. Who are those top 10 heavyweight you think he has to face before this fight?, it's not like the division is packed with talent and climbing the ladder requires beating a lot of top opponents. If the division was packed with 10 elites before reaching the champion then Haye wouldn't have got a title shot for doing nothing in the division. If he doesn't step up now then when should he?, there are not enough good tests out there for him to take on first.
