How is this even a thread. Joe Louis would brutally KO both the klits

 

32 pages this has been going for. I often think hypothetical matchups are overused (and I post quite a few of them so oftn ponder this before posting) but fights like these show the amount of healthy debate that can come from one.

This has been mostly enjoyable with not a huge amount of rudeness, a fair amount of style/resume comparison and analysis.....good stuff :good

 

Does it matter who the Champion was :huh My point was that Byrd had no problem whatsoever rematching WALDO yet there seems to be an insinuation that he ducked a rematch with VITLAY. VITLAY lovers like to make out that the guys that beat him were scared of rematches without any actual facts to back it up.

The point is, Byrd could have dropped the belts had he not wanted to get another beating, that suggests to me that the guy wasn't scared to fight anyone.

I mean, heaven forbid he drop the belt like a red hot potato rather than face a guy he was scared of losing to eh.....what kind of a weak arsed, yellow bellied paper champion pulls a trick like that?

 

Chris the "I plod at .2 MPH" wouldn't have won jack **** against Holmes.

I find it a little depressing really.

Vitally Klitschko has a decent resume but it is thin and barely second rate relative to those of the lineal heavyweight champions.

He is not even particularly technicaly brilliant relative to other fighters his size.

He is just big a and visualy impresive fighter and that alone is enough to convince a lot of people who should know better that he would beat some of the greatest heavyweights of all time.

 

He could win a round or two. Hell, Mike Weaver, way old shot Shavers, Witherspoon, Williams and a blown up Spinks won plenty of rounds.

 

I think he is technically inferior to Carnera as a boxer.

 

That's bound to keep this thread going for another 20 pages or so.

i am not disagreeing with you as i have not seen much of carnera but that does really say something about the heavyweights of today and some posters on here will have kittens you said that about one of the klits

 

I always was under the impression Carnera was nothing more than a bum, and this impression came from endless magazine articles and even from a couple of books on boxing from respected authors.
In a way, I feel Carnera has been given a really rough deal from the boxing media. Perhaps this stems from lazy journalism added to the fact that Primo had Mob connections and possibly a few fixed fights.

Anyway, once you see a bit more of the guy, and not just fights where he's getting the crap beaten out of him, you realise that maybe Da Preem wasn't so bad after all.
I'm not suggesting he was a good fighter necessarily, but he was not nearly as bad as some would have you believe either.
I have Janitor to thank for putting me right on Carnera, and I'm glad he did.
