If Mayweather takes on Mosley, Cotto, etc, regardless of his performances he would shut doubters up and gain a whole new level of respect because he'd be doing what those doubters didnt think he would do, fighting the best in the welterweight division. He is one of the best pound for pounders, but until he beats the current challengers, in his weight division, he can't be legitmately labelled the best welterweight in the world.

Ellerbe said Mayweather opted for the buyout so he could be "more in control of when and who he fights next. It's as simple as that. There is nothing bad between Floyd and Bob."

Ellerbe states he took the buyout so he could pick and choose who he fought.

Margo wasn't seen as **** he was on the outside looking in. Baldo was the champ Margo hadn't won ****. If he had beat Margo people would have said Margo was a bum and he ducked the real champ of the division in Baldo. He made the right decision and got rid of that POS Arum at the same time.

With Arum - he fought Gatti, Bruseles, etc.
Without Arum - he fought ODLH, Hatton, JMM

It was amazing Hatton outweighed PBF on fight night and he was figured out, beat at his own game, broken down and made to dance with the ring post. It was an underrated clinic.:deal

Yup I want to see him do it too. As of now I genuinely think Floyd is going for the best fights from a business end of things. He spent years of his career building up his name and accomplishments. 130 and 135 was no cake walk for him by any means, so he's enjoying fighting less now that he's the top dog.

That said, If he doesn't fight either Pac/Cotto winner or Mosley, choosing other lesser opponents instead, i'd lose all respect for the guy. I'm just pretty confident he's gonna fight the pac/cotto winner. 6 months time we'll know for sure. Until then there will be a million threads with people attacking and defending him.

Allow the ol' Radab to shut them up once and for all

    1. Floyd is an unbelievably gifted boxer
    2. He's squandered his talent by always seeking the easy route way out - easy money is what Money Mayweather's all about
    3. Like Calzaghe, Floyd will always be a somewhat unknown enigma - a great who avoided the sternest challenges whenever he could

    Close thread.

Margarito had beaten Kermot Cintron(undefeated ko artist) for WBO.
Your saying thats not far superior to baldomir who was unheard of before he won a split decision against Judah.

Floyd could see baldomir was a slow meandering plodder who wouldnt trouble him.
Margarito then went on to beat clottey and eventually cotto.. Id say he is far superior to baldomir(witho or without plaster!)

Not true. 130 and 135 he fought everyone worthy of a fight. De La Hoya outweighing him was a big money fight, but not an easy fight being outweighed considerably. A hugely determined unbeaten Hatton coming straight at him from the opening bell wasn't an easy guy to put away either. The rest are arguable in some form, i suppose.

The easiest way to understand the Mayweather situation is to use another great talent from the past in his place and compare the situations.

In my view, pure talent wise, Sugar Ray Leonard was better than Duran, Hearns and Hagler, but if he would have said that he was the best; would beat all of them when meeting them and decided not to go ahead because he didn't feel the need to actually prove it in a ring, would he deserve the same respect ?

People also could have said that Duran wasn't fighting him at his best weight class, Hagler was past his prime and already went through a few wars, etc...

Bottom line, those fights needed to be made to legitimize Leonard as the best !! THE SAME NEEDS TO BE DONE WITH PBF IN THE RING, NOT SAYING IT OUTSIDE...

Beat a legit welter in any way he wants. He could pot-shot and run all night, nobody would care. Just simply beat any of the top welter of today, and his critics will surely shut up and start giving him credits.
