Hopkins would have beaten him, regardless of the circumstances or weight. Hopkins (even as an ancient boxer) is a great fighter, Pavlik is good but will never be in Hopkins class.

fact of a matter.......kelly has been exspose...& a busy fighter like paul williams will kill him....I also feel the same about jamaine taylor ...just take him in the deep water you can drown him, he just dont have it in the late rounds.

It is a tough question to answer but I still think that if a fighter goes into the ring at his walking around weight he he has not been conditioned enough because if he was, he would be lighter.

No, not necessarily. If he can make 160 without being de-energized, then simple logical says that he's going to quicker than at 170 given he has 10 less lbs to shift around and work with.

pavlik doesnt fight fast enough to expose bhops biggest flaw at the moment which is his age... if pavlik stalked his fighters like margarito he probably would have caught up with bhop but pavlik fights a little more deliberate and takes his time more

    that makes sense...

Rubio would have beat the version of Pavlik that Hopkins fought, and weight had little to do with it.

Hopkins had Pavlik's style down to the letter. I don't buy the story of Pavlik being near-dead entering the ring whatsoever. Also, Loew and Pavlik were vocal about the extra weight suiting them since they didn't need to worry about cutting weight and could just focus on the boxing end of things in training. No shame in being the victim of a clinic put on by one of the sport's greatest legends. Hopkins was on a mission that night.

Edit: That said, anyone trying to look at what Hopkins did and try to point to what Williams could do is mislead. Williams is no Hopkins. Not even close. Williams is going to be there to be hit all night long.

Well, I would not have thought the extra weight would hurt him. He is in his prime, and simply was not cutting the extra weight as you said. Also, it's a lot easier to move up in weight when your younger, than move down.

But what I saw in the 166 pound fight against Taylor, and the 170 pound fight against B-hop, was that he did look slower.

I still think Bernard would have beat him anyway, based on the style match-up. I actually picked him to win, although a lot of people though he would lose. Thought the 2nd Taylor fight was really close. Gave it to Jermain, even with losing the last 2 rounds. I scored Taylor's more effective clean punching than Pavlik's workrate in that fight, which was mostly the jab.

Maybe he just needs to add the weight properly, rather that just losing less weight, by adding some muscle. He should whenever he moves up from 160 for good.

I just wonder why, if Pavlik was so sick, he didn't get much more tired or winded during the fight?

Answer: He wasn't sick. He was confused by a master boxer.

December 6th is going to be a good day, all of these stupid threads will be gone and people will accept that Paul Williams is good but no BHop. He's getting KTFO.

That extra 9 pounds was too much for him, but i think it was more of the case that he was sick more than anything.
