Yes, but only to an extent. There's much more to it, and exactly how much I'd give them depends on skills, talent, styles, chins, etc... For instance, I gave Gatti like a 1/1000 of a percent chance against Mayweather, despite his power, since Mayweather is eons above him in skills and talent and the fact that Gatti struggled with speed. I gave Foreman much more of a chance against Moorer, or Tua much more of a chance against Byrd and Lewis since the gaps in class weren't nearly as large.
Of course. Unless it doesn't apply, ie Paulie Malignaggi doesn't have a puncher's chance against, say, Tim Bradley.
It happens every year in boxing. Shannon Briggs vs Liakhovich comes to mind as a recent example. Froch vs Taylor.
Yes but only if the puncher comes in great shape and focused and maybe the better fighter is not in it 100%. Example Lennox got sparked by McCall but in the rematch it did not repeat. Cliff Couser took out Barret but lost a rematch. Sanders over Wlad. Mayorga over Forrest. Hearns getting KO'd by the Blade (forgot his last name). But the win is ususally not repeated. And the 2nd time around the puncher is less prepared and the boxer actually shows up 100%.
Awhile back I watched a fight between Ross "The Boss" Minter (Allen Minter's kid) and Furious Freddy Curiel. Going into the last round Freddy looked like someone had been beating on his face with a brick. He hadn't won a round. With 30 seconds remaining, Freddy was on the ropes getting his ass kicked some more, and all of a sudden BANG!!! The Minter kid literally flew across the ring. Fight over! So ya, **** happens.
Yes, ofcourse! Rahman vs Lewis I , Brewster vs Wlad I , Froch vs Taylor , Brigg vs Lyachovich, just to name a few wellknown, but there so many of these fights where the "punchers chance" have change the fight from clear domination to sudden loss! Andrade vs Bute also comes to mind, even though Andrade lost.. and i`m sure its not the last of that kind we will see from Andrade!
David Tua. Look at the Rahman and Maskaev fights. If a puncher can carry his power late (isn't all that common), they are always in the fight.
Another example is Julian Jackson. You could be beating the ever-holy-**** out of him, and in the blink of an eye, be on your back, wondering what happened. Ask Herol Graham.
Marciano-Walcott I, Marciano-Walcott II(the Rock's power in the first round made this fight a puncher's no chance...after their first encounter it convinced Walcott he was done), Walcott-Charles III, Weaver-Tate, Rahman Lewis I, Toney-Nunn, Foreman-Lyle, Shavers-Ellis are all great punchers chance examples
