Now then, I still have my old Sky box with viewing card and the dish is still up on the roof and the lead from said dish is coming through the wall.

Now if I was to connect it all up and feed the box into the AV port of the TV like I do with the play station , could I still get sky (freeview channels at least) and therefore channel 480 for this here Froch dust up??

And would PPV work through such a rig up??

I have the same setup, so I'd be interested in this. I've always thought 'no' because 480 is a channel that Sky own, so you'd need a Sky subscription to even pay extra for the PPV.

    Could well be wrong though....

  3. you don't need to be a sky customer if you have a sky box and can get the channel then you're good, just call them and give them your bank details

Hook the box up to make sure its in working order and check. If channel 480 is working and showing adverts then you are laughing. I wouldn't bother calling sky because they are still in the darlk about this channel.

If you were meant to give your sky box back at any point, then I would suggest thinking carefully on this. Surely Sky will have a way of checking what PPV is travelling to that box? Cant say for certain, but be wary.

  9. yep, don't contact them if thats the case

they won't know whats travelling to the box though, their hands are washed of it

My box isn't connected to the telephone. When I ordered Setanta they just needed my bank details and the number on my Sky card (that pretty much just gives me the Freeview channels).

  11. you've got it :good

    works just like setanta

I'd say you're ready to roll then.

My mate swiped a Sky box a while back, had it chipped so he could get pretty much everything for nothing. Then, when he couldnt get a PPV event (think it was a Liverpool game) rang Sky to see what the problem was.

    :patsch

Absolute muppet. I say mate, dropped him like a wet fish after that little episode.

  13. what a clown, and for a liverpool game? :nut

If it's anything like Virgin they transmit everything all the time to every box. They only tell your box what it can and can't decrypt, when you pay for PPV they send a signal to your box (in fact they send the signal to every box, but only one understands it) to tell it it's allowed to access the PPV channel.

If you have a box that can already see the PPV channels, they have no way of knowing.
