Better use of feints for one thing. To be honest though the onus is not on me. People suporting the Klitsckos have been arguing that they represent a genaration of technicaly superior superheavyweights while the guys that size that Louis beat were just unskilled oafs. I have called BS on that and challenged people to point out how they are technicaly superior to people like Primo Carnera and Buddy Baer. I have also posted footage of them both earlier in this thread to bolster my case.
Since you haven't resorted to calling me names I'll be civil: So you're saying Max Schmeling would beat Wladimir Klitschko right? First, Wladimir has already passed Schmeling on any serious ATG list & head to head it would be a massacre. Yes, Max was a good boxer but Wladimir is bigger, faster, hits harder and he has the size to deliver his punches without much fear of being caught since Max wasn't the biggest puncher.
Pardon me for being lazy but I'm not going to sift through 50+ pages to find it......................have a link by chance? I've seen a lot of old footage of many boxers and what I've seen of Primo didn't impress me at all. When compared to Vitali, Primo is very slow & he doesn't throw enough. He had a jab but he abandons it as soon as someone lands on that big suspect chin of his. That's basically what happened against Max Baer isn't it? Primo did not throw from weird angles either like Vitali does.
Carnera does not use his size well on film in his early fights such as the one with Larry Gaines and the first Sharkey fight. He found his own Manny Steward in the form of Abe Attel who taught him to use his size to good effect and work the jab. In the second Sharkey fight he displays good al round textbook skills and uses his size to bood effect. Max Baer beat him down in part with a Foremanesque assult but also because he discovered a flaw in Carnera's defence that enabled him to counter with his right hand. Anyway I will dig up the old thread.
Another point about Max is that he couldn't capitalize on any weaknesses he found with Max Baer and Baer wasn't as technically sound as Joe Louis. I just added that part to reinforce my point that you can't assume Schmeling would counter punch so successfully against Wladimir or any boxer just because he found success against an ATG in Joe Louis.
