calzaghe vs qawi

Brit Sillynanny is right.

Calzaghe was good but did jack**** at light-heavyweight, and NONE of his opponents at 168 pounds are remotely comparable to Qawi or anyone like that.
The Calzaghe-Hopkins and Calzaghe-Jones fights were deserved paydays and famous "names" for Calzaghe, I begrudge him not one bit, but the results hardly register.

There's nothing to suggest he could handle Qawi.

If in doubt, look at Qawi's record.

 

well Joe is flue fluent than Minter though awkward himself (terrible punching technique, but effective) but yep, against the likes of Qai, Saad, Conteh, it would see him banged out.

I just don't think he was particularly impressive at 175.

 

Calzahge turned out to be a much better fighter than a lot of us thought. He was protected for the good part of his career and its ashame because I believe he had the ability to compete against the worlds best when he should have.
The only hole I saw in his game was he sometimes became a slapper late in his fights. That could have hurt him against the stronger fighters but like someone said, he would have given any guy trouble. He was technically a very good boxer, but awkward as well, if that makes any sense?

 

Prime Ike was a nightmare at LHW, and only the best version of Mike Spinks was able to take him (after Qawi had turned 30). He was over 30 pounds fatter for an in shape Foreman than he had been when taken out by a juiced Holyfield in their rematch, yet hung in well for several rounds.

China_hand_Joe stated that, "nobody below heavyweight" walks through Calzaghe's shots, but I submit that Ike indeed had heavyweight resistance when in top form. Dwight was also masterful at cutting off the ring, keeping his lead foot between his opponent's feet. (Qawi had the longest trunks since Archie Moore. When asked why, he replied that it was in an effort to hide his leg movement. Today, of course, it's just trendy to wear trunks long and baggy enough to hold adult diapers inside, along with a codpiece.)

Although just a shade over 5'5," Ike also had a 71" reach, making him far more effective from long range than might commonly be supposed. Given his slip and counter tactics, Calzaghe's listed 73" wouldn't seem like much of an advantage at all. This would look like a skinny SMW against a heavyweight tank. Calzaghe might survive, but he'd also look like a boy tossing pebbles at an armored transport.

 

As good as Joe was,this would have been a step too far.

qawi stops calzaghe in about 5 rounds and it would be a battle and a tear up with qawi's extra size and power coming through. that tiny bit much.
but i know it would end up being a tear up NO QUESTION.

No way bro. Qawi was superb at cutting off the ring. Joe would use 3X as much of his gas tank trying to stay away and he couldn't fight going backward. Qawi grinds him down.

Dwight Qawi is a perfectly understandable favorite. But I wouldn’t make it a given. Calzaghe was smart, fast and busy and knew when it play it safe. With any luck he might out point Qawi just on sheer volume
