    Some solid action on Saturday.

A decent German card is headlined by rising-star Denis Boytsov who'll aim to be the first to stop Jason Gavern. In all honesty,Gavern is a poor opponent for Boytsov who was originally scheduled to face Denis Bakhtov. Universum really need to step up his comp after this.

Undercard features another Universum HW prospect, Manuel Charr, against Sherman Williams. I've seen one Charr fight where he defeated Gbenga Oloukun (who would go on to beat Lamon Brewster) and he looked average. Don't see him amounting to much but that Oloukun win looks pretty good now.
    ----

A twin world title card in Japan sees Jorge Linares take on unbeaten Mexican Juan Carlos Salgado in a defence of his WBA SFW title. Whilst Salgado's record looks impressive on paper but he hasn't beaten anyone of note. Linares' competition has been really average considering he's a two weight world champ. Expect him to step up after this when he relocates to the USA and fights for GBP.

Co-feature sees WBC SBW champ Toshiaki Nishioka make the first defence of his title against Ivan Hernandez. Hernandez has losses against Fernando Montiel and Israel Vazquez but boasts a win over an old Mark "Too Sharp" Johnson.
    ----

Speaking of Israel Vazquez, the Mexican brawler returns from a 19th month injury enforced exile :)happy) and takes on Angel Antonio Priolo. Priolo has lost six straight, including stoppage losses to Abner Mares, Brian Vilioria and Jorge Arce but who can blame "Magnifico" for taking a soft touch after those wars with Rafa?
    ----

Card of the weekend sees two of Top Rank's stars in separate fights.

JuanMa Lopez faces tough African Rogers Mtagwa. I've only seen Mtagwa once (in his war against Tomas Villa) and whilst he lacks skill he makes up for it with heart and durability. Mtagwa will attempt to make it enteraining whilst it lasts but expect JuanMa to have too much for him.

Yuriorkis Gamboa, who Top Rank hope to matchup with Lopez in the future, faces Whyber Garcia. This is a showcase bout for Gamboa as Garcia has aleady been stopped in 1 by Valero and in 5 by Linares.

Also on the card is an intriguing crossroads heavyweight matchup. David Haye (and Wlad and Valuev and Cliff Couser ;)) victim Monte Barrett fights unbeaten Odlanier Solis. This is Solis' 3rd opponent for this card. He was first meant to fight unbeaten Kevin Johnson and then Freq Oquendo. With less than a week to the fight Top Rank found a solid replacment in Barrett, much credit to them. Hopefully "Two Gunz" is in good shape and presents a test for Solis.

Your thoughts on any of these fights?

Izzys opponent is a bit weak even given the circumstances. The Barret-Solis fight is pretty decent though, Ill probably stay up for that one.

Solis-Barrett is pretty much the only interesting fight of the lot.

Boytsov/Bakhtov would have been good but Gavern is crap.

    good stuff ishy

yall know i'm high on JuanMa (i'm holding the shotgun on that bandwaggon lol) but why the heck is he fighting this type of opponent? just conning people outta 50 bucks, its ridiculous. Oh well at least him and Gamboa are on collision course and i'm already salivating over that one.

Linares is another guy i like, good to see him actually get in the ring after being on a milk carton, this guy is the truth and needs more exposure and mainstream attention.

It is a fantastic weekend's worth of action. Hasegawa's people have been quiet and there's talk he may well move up to super bantam so, if Nishioka retains his title, you just never know- watch this space. FFN tomorrow and the Top Rank card on Saturday:happy. Can't wait. Pity I can't watch Izzy at the same time, though:fire.

Yeah, Losfer...nothing like having a hard week at work but the thought of FFN's make the week bearable, this weeks is a decent card. But sometimes you tune into the info button to see the details of SS1/2, and it's two bums in the main event squaring off at featherweight no less. Wow, thanks network of "believe in better"... its even worse when getting people's interest sparked with a top bill several weeks earlier, then they go to a bum of the month fest. Way to carve out your niche.

Boystrov Vs Bakhtov would have been decent after watching Kretschmann dance around the ring. What happen to that fight btw Bakhtov is fighting a week or two later?

Looking forward to seeing Solis Vs Monte. Duddy is back with his first trainer (i think) as well all be it that his competition isn't good.

Also just seen Jose Armando Santa Cruz went to Light-Welter.. Why?

Teddy Altas made a similar point at a fight last year, he said a lot of these Cubans are quite happy because they've got to America and are making a few quid fighting. They can lose their 'hunger' (pardon the pun) quite easily before they've achieved that much in the ring.
