The Impressive Resume of Andre Dirrell

Nah, it's this fact that makes Froch so good. He knows the clock is ticking and so goes balls out for anyone. He just wants a quick legacy so will fight anyone anywhere he knows his skills won't last forever.

If he started boxing sooner he'd be protecting his resume ............like Bute :yep

 

Care to go back 5 fights on Froch?

3) Albert Rybacki, 15-0. Hasn't fought since. Had fought ABSOLUTELY no one. This gave Froch his title shot shot?

4) Robin Reid Good name, but long shot to pieces. Overdue retirement afterwards.

5) Sergey Tatevosyan Best of the 3, but had lost to any decent comp. Was at the end of his run and hasn't fought since.

Resumes are easy to pick apart. Froch has the obvious experience edge, but this is a bad style clash for him.

I'd still take Froch, though. The big question to me is how Dirrell handles rounds 9-12. He's not ko'ing Froch and hasn't fought late in fights much at all (let alone in a tough fight). Experience is a big factor, but not quite in the way you're suggesting.

 

Wait wait wait.....
Let's look at the heights of Dirrell's biggest fights:
Curtis Stevens (5'7), Victor Oganov (5'8 ) and Derrick Findley (5'6).
Guys, these are supermiddle weight midgets.
And then to consider this: Stevens literally chased Dirrell around the ring and Dirrell just pot shotted and rarely engaged.
Dirrell said that Oganov pressured him like never before and gave him his hardest fight to date.

That's scary for Dirrell's sake.
You can look at records, those are clearly important. But don't neglect the fighter's physical stature.

 

It's a good thing Teddy Atlas isn't calling this fight. He'd be talking about "deep waters" the entire time.

Sure, Froch has an experience edge, having been taken to "deep waters" twice, but it's not like there's THAT wide of a rift. Froch's pre-Pascal comp is worse than Dirrell's. Everyone needs to step up eventually. That's why the fight is interesting. From a pure style and skill standpoint, Dirrell should beat Froch. But we don't know about Dirrell's heart, chin or stamina. Those things are proven for Froch. If it turns out that Dirrell has those intangibles, then he could very well pull off the upset.

Personally, I keep going back and forth, and I see it as about a 50/50 fight. Dirrell's been hurt before by lesser punchers, but he was also cracked cleanly by Oganov who's a bigger puncher than Froch. Will Dirrell be able to stand up to the accumulation of lots of big punches? Maybe, maybe not. But if he can, then Dirrell has the potential to make Froch look silly. And Froch has the potential to make Dirrell look like a china chinned fraud. We shall all see...

 

You're forgetting 6'1" Hanshaw, which almost certainly was his biggest fight. And that he whupped Hanshaw much more convincingly than did Roy Jones.

Eh, whatever I'm taking Froch. Froch is probably training hard while Dirrell is still playing video games.
