can't believe this! i thought salgado had but a slim chance to beat linares but in boxing nothing is written in stone. i knew salgado was a really good prospect but i certainly didn't expect this great news! another new mexican world champion has been crowned! :happy

I always knew Linares was overrated badly and he was being given an easy legacy by claiming 2 titles in 2 different weight divisions and not fighting 1 top fighter but this is just horrible.

 

What kind of fighter is salgado?

I never seen or heard about him prior tonight.

 

I expect Hozumi, to disasapear for a long time in this forum, that was a linares nut hugger.

salgado is a very tall ring technician with a good jab. he's also a good counterpuncher and very solid fundamentally but in the last two years he was somewhat inactive. that's why i was surprised they would even take this fight because of his inactivity. still surprised because i didn't see this ending at all but in boxing all it takes is one punch to turn the whole thing around. i am sure there will be a rematch.

another mexican ex-champion ivan hernandez is challenging nishioka, a title holder from japan in the main event on the same card. again, ivan hernandez is a good fighter but i don't know if he can take the tough japanese who last KO'd jhonny gonzalez in three rounds by one single punch.

actually i didn't think linares was overrated at all. he is young with very solid fundamentals. it's just that in boxing nothing is etched in stone because like i said before, one or two punches is all it takes to turn a fight around. what i think will happen is linares will gather himself up (no pun intended) and go back to the drawing board and come back better than before. i still respect him as a great fighter who just got caught!

 

another juan carlos (burgos) has won tonight in california. this is another of mexico's top prospects who everyone will be hearing about soon. he ko'd yogi herrera in the 6th round. juan carlos burgos is a tall featherweight like juan carlos salgado (super featherweight) with alot of the same attributes. he's another good boxer with a long reach, good jab and good power. also like salgado he's very solid technically.
