The two most amazing displays of fighting hurt I know of...Marciano's nose was sliced like a watermelon at a picnic in his second fight with Ezzard Charles. Certainly an injury that gruesome had to hurt, not to mention that the fight was very closed to being stopped. That was all the incentive Marciano needed to bludgeon Charles helpless . Of course , Dempsey came back to flatten Firpo after getting launched out of the ring, no small display of fighting hurt either.

Holmes was a splendid fighter when hurt. Against the massive hitting Shavers he went defensive, but vs the likes of Snipes and Witherspoon he simply pulled up the trunks and hammered.

We'd like to see similar questions vs a great finisher, but based on what he did vs who he fought makes him very worthy of mention.

Dempsey is overrated, I believe. In terms of power and especially durability. He gets overrated in H2H more so than rankings. You could argue him as a top 5 HW based on your own criteria in and of itself. He revolutionized and hugely impacted the game.

However, Dempsey's ability to bull forward and fight while hurt was pretty impressive. I think even the critics of Jack would agree on that.

dempsey spoke about getting his ribs busted and how he new something inside was busted and he fought on worring about whatever was busted cutting his heart or something else and how excruicating that was-------i couldnt even imagine how the body shots felt after that,he was tough as nails i.m.o.--i say if u locked all the past and present heavies in a room dempsey and marciano would be a couple of the ones standing when most would be laying motionless

The winner. Gatti, of course, was extremely dangerous when he was hurt, too. Chacon deserves a shout as well

I don't think Danny belongs on this thread. In my opinion what Little Red did was the exact opposite of fighting hurt. I think it was more like his opponent hammered the **** out of him, knocked him down, and then Danny was like, "That was nothing! Let's roll!!"

I think tht Dempsey could pull a fight back from closer to the brink than any other fighter I know of.

There was more than one ocasion where he won a fight and did not know the outcome of the fight afterward.

All the other names people have put forward are good shouts.

That's the right end of the equation to be on, especially as you have guys like Lennox Lewis (Rahman) who had to ask "who won?" when they had lost.

Nah, that's a myth. But Marciano is a good choice.

Can you explain this? Virtually everyone explains that the fight was very close to being stopped. And that some say Rocky pleaded for another round and the ref granted him it. The fight most likely would've been stopped after the 8th round.

Louis Marciano attested to Marciano asking for another round.

This is what a New England promoter said.

said. "The fight couldn't possibly have gone another round without the referee stopping it. They just couldn't stop the bleeding. It had to be an elbow. No punch could make a cut like that. There was Rocky in the middle of a tough fight, but when he had to KO Charles, he did. It was unbelievable.

No ones mentioned ALi, said to be out on his feet 3 times against Foreman, took major pain from Frazier, on groggy legs against Cooper, out on his feet against Shavers, blind against Liston....
