First time he has been 12 rds and it showed. His stamina was lacking and he was saved by the bell in the 11th rd. His chin held up, but now we see that he can be hurt. All Mtagwa needed was another 15 seconds on rd 11 to fnish Juanma. Juanma won the fight but Mtagwa won the event.
I agree. Though I think it may indeed be debateable whether Lopez won the fight. Mtagwa deserves another shot.
I wasn't discouraged by his stamina. His gameplan was wrong, he traded too much and wasted too much energy as a result, I'm not surprised he was ****ed. His startling lack of ANY kind of jab was more worrying. And he really didn't move too well, he always looks heavy footed.
I dont see anyway this guy will get top bouts. He is far too dangerous, Juanma will not rematch him IMO. Arum wont let it happen. If they hadnt scored that "knockdown" a KD then the cards would have to be really close. Juanma showed a lot of heart, but he also showed soem flaws. He didnt need to brawl as much as he did. His stamina did not really hold up and we know for sure he can get hurt badly. He Barely escaped rd 11, barely.
He's always been beatable. He's an average athlete with a poor jab and overrated power. Going life and death with a journeyman and running during the championship rounds doesn't impress me. It was a very entertaining fight, don't get me wrong, but that doesn't mean that it raised JuanMa's stock in my eyes.
Definitely wrong game plan. It seemed Juanma went into mexican mode or gatti mode and just wanted to trade. Maybe he believed too much in his KO %. This is the first time we have seen him go 12, it wasnt pretty, but he did hold on so much credit to him. I am now a Mtagwa fan!:smoke
Juanma was as much as the event as Mtagwa...when was the last time you seen a man fight to survive the 11th and 12th round and make it out like that? The end of this fight was Juanma's survival skills vs Mtagwa's arsenal of relentless mercyless attacking lefts and rights.
Juanma is like a Felix Trinidad clone with better movement and less power. I think he has become in love with his power and relies too much on it.
He had an awful gameplan, and might have been weightdrained. Either way, he narrowly survived an average opponent. Coming back strong from a miserable performance is the mark of a champ. I bet he improves.
Imo if Mtagwa would have calmed down and picked his shots more carefully when he had Lopes on wobble street then he would have finished the fight easily, it was almost laughable how Rogers had to chase Juan across the ring , fantastic fight but Juan clearly has serious flaws and if he was facing Gamboa in those last three rounds tonight he would have been taken apart emphatically i believe.
Everybody is beatable. Juanma's biggest mistake tonight was not using his jab. He won a tough good fight, congrats to both.
damn, i missed this great fight. i watched at youtube the last 2 rounds and ****, juanma was really tired.
There are certain times where the greatest of fighters look invincible. This is normally in great fighters prime. Juanma is in his prime and he didnt exactly figth a great fighter tonight and squeezed through rd 11, just barely, he was out on his feet saved by the bell. I think there is a distinction to be drawn with what we saw with Juanma tonight. I was fairly well sold on him, but the fact that he has never gone 12 really showed something tonight. Maybe he is just a good or very good fighter and greatness eludes him. Time and more tough fights will tell.
