No. A romany might call any other traveller a pikey, but more likely it is used to describe a member of the group who has been cast out forever for thieving, or bringing shame on that family...it really is a massive insult. A pikey in Romany tradition would probably have a small tattoo under his eye to show that he had been tried by the family and this is a warning to other Romany that the man isn't trustworthy and should be shunned.

 

Ive heard thieving by the travelling community is hugely widespread in Italy and Greece.

In all the interviews he's given he's come across as a decent guy and, certainly, less of a **** than Degale, for example, who isn't "pikey".

 

Punching the mother of his kids is a very 'pikey' thing to do and worse than being a **** in interviews.
