Why no hateful threads about B-Hop's tune up?

Floyd gets criticised for facing P4P #2 because the guy is two weight classes below his weight class?

Hopkins gets a free ticket for facing an absolute nobody who is one weight class below his?

Both were tune ups/get the rust off fights.... and you ****ers say you don't have irrational hatred for Floyd?

 

I like both fighters, so I'm pretty objective about this. Floyd fought on PPV and marketed this fight as a legit super fight. Hopkins is fighting on VS. and is fighting on a college campus and is charging reasonable ticket prices. Not only that, but he has a fight setup with Jones. Floyd has no fight lined up. Had Floyd Marquez on regular HBO, marketed the fight as a tuneup and had a fight with say Pac or Mosley lined up, no one would be bitching.

 

b-hop gets a pass! the man is 44 years old.... he needs a tune up before he kicks roys ass!!!

I think it's a lame fight, unneeded at his age.

 

It was a legitimate super fight, had Floyd gone from 147 to 160 to face Pavlik, do you think that would be a super fight? When Floyd was one or two fights into 147 from 140 and went up to 154 to face Oscar, that was a super fight.

This idea that size mattered in their fight makes me laugh when both guys are boxers first and foremost and neither really have the power to be big punchers at any weight class that isn't filled with guys who weigh the same as 15 yr old girls.

 

I agree with the first couple of posts. This is a COMPLETELY different situation.

Mayweathers last 6 opponents - Marquez, Hatton, De La Hoya, Baldomir, judah, Mitchell

Mayweather: "I'm better than Ali and Robinson".

Double standards. People merely trying to sugar coat it. I don't have any problems with Hopkins taking on Ornelas just to keep active, what I do have a problem with is people giving him a free pass, yet ragging on Floyd for taking on the P4P #2 in a similar situation, only he marketed it as a bigger fight & made a lot more money out of it.

Because Hopkins is a man in his mid-forties who's been fighting the very, very best and constantly giving himself the most difficult fights possible for decades, and he's not pretending this fight is anything other than a tune-up.

Floyd Mayweather has been ducking people for a long time and looks set to continue doing it, and tries to claim that fighting a blown-up Super Featherweight constitutes a veritable super-fight.

But yeah I agree that Hopkins shouldn't be fighting a tune up or even this version of Jones but comon the man is 44.

 

I think you'll find there's a few around here who will disagree with that sentiment, specifically during his MW reign, given the fact his best win's were against natural welterweights and he fought like the likes of Mourade Hakkar, and Robert Allen - 3 times.
