A few months ago, many were saying this was a fight that has to happen.

    Is this still the case?

Many thought JMM won both their previous fights, some thought Pac did, but there is certainly no doubt they were very close fights.

Would it still be the case now, or will Pac be too much for JMM at 140? ( the weight the fight would most probably happen at)

I think JMM has started to look like he has peaked in his last few fights. Although JMM won both of their first 2 fights IMO, I fear Manny might stop him if they fought again.

Pac by KO... Pac is already adjusted to the weight (140) he's proven to have carried his power and speed. Would'nt be as close as their previous meetings, imo.

In my opinion and the opinion of many astute boxing fans, Pacquiao won both fights, however, no matter what you think, there is no question both fights were epic and close. At 140 in 2010, I think Pac would knock out JMM, it would not be another epic fight, however, Marquez deserves this fight. The only thing that could make JMM win is if Pac gets mauled by Cotto and comes in a shell of himself.

I've said all along, the higher the weight they fight, the more the advantage goes to the boxer.......

Marquez would beat Pac once again.....

I dont believe Pac has taken his power up with him.....and certainly his KO of Ricky Hatton imo gives many a false impression that he has.

Pac has good power at 140 lbs, but not nearly the power he carried in the lower weights......thats going to benefit the boxer JMM.

However, this topic would be better discussed once the Pac-Cotto fight has been done with.
After Cotto, we're likely to get alot of answers as to where Pac's strenghth and power is in comparison to a strong Welter like Miguel Cotto.

As of right now, my opinion is that JMM will win another decision in much the same manner as the first two.......
.....if Pac shows he can more than handle Miguel Cotto's strenghth and punching power......I'm more than open to rethink my assesment.

OK, but.. how is knocking someone the f*ck out in 2 rounds creating a false impression?

This is the same opinion that most in this forum held when Pac had just mauled Erik Morales at 130 lbs and was about to get into the ring with JMM.......most in this forum felt that Pac at 130 lbs was not only a better boxer, but a stronger one......
......that he would do away with Marquez as easily as he did Morales......

.....guess what???? Nothing changed from the first fight to the second fight, except there were 2 less knockdowns in them.

Nothing like the two Pacquiao-Marquez fights to polarize everyone :D
"Many thought so and so won both fights"
"Many astute boxing fans thought this guy won"

I think Marquez' max weight is at 135. Pacquiao on the other hand seems to get better at 140. And it doesn't entirely have to do with his opponents.

If you pay attention to the sport, you'd have followed Ricky Hatton and come to the conclusion that his legs give way and turn to jello when he gets hit on the chin!

The fact that Hatton went down so easily from a right hand that Pac has never shown to have devestating power with, told everyone that knows anything about the sport that Hatton's chin was less sturdier than china.

Who Pac knocked out cold is what gives alot of fans a false impression that Pac has carried his power up and is still devestating with it.

Personally I'm not convinced, but can be if he does the same to Cotto, who has not shown china chin vulnerabilites at Welterweight.

I'm picking Pac by UD, another SD, or late stoppage. Style-wise JMM will always give Pac a hard time. Pac is no Mayweather when it comes to movement and counterpunching. I also think Pac's power has been a bit over rated with respect to the Hatton demolition job. I honestly don't see Pac doing this to Cotto.

To add to your thoughts......Pac hit DLH with everything.....DLH was helpless as far as trying to avoid getting hit......yet not once did DLH's legs buckle under him......

With an overmatched and outclassed David Diaz.....finally Diaz got short circuited late (I believe the last round)......but not after Pac had thrown everything at him and continously landed at will on David Diaz.......
....that fight there did'nt give me the impression that Pac's power at even 135 was of the devestating category.
    Good power yes, devestating no!

Really? I'd say, uptil then in Ricky's career, his legs have been quite un-jelly like - he has taken a lot of bombs to the chin and not gone down. When Floyd got the KO against Ricky, it was as much accumulation as it was that particular check hook.

Even in the DLH fight, if the fight had gone on another round or two, I feel Pac would have got the KO. To begin with he was understandably cautious at the weight, throwing scoring punches rather than bombs, but when he started to unload the power punches later in the fight, and it really looked like DLH was going to topple. That doesn't happen very often.

There's a good argument to say Cotto could well out power Pac, but I'd also say there's plenty of evidence to suggest Pac still has KO power at welterweight.

Pac packs a lot of power in his punches no doubt. What he did to Hatton was no fluke. Not a lot could have run over Hatton like that. I just don't agree when people think that Pac's issuing the same demolition to Cotto or other legit welterweights.

I'd say the evidence shows otherwise......Hatton went down and was about to be KTFO by Luiz Collazo (a non-puncher) when the final bell rang.....

......he got totally discombobulated by a Mayweather short hook that was the beggining of the end.........

......he then was out on his feet in Manchester England against Juan Lazcano (journeyman) but the hometown referee inexplicably called a timeout to buy time for Hatton who was in dire straights......

.....got dropped and hurt badly by Pac's non-power hand in the first round (I think this told everyone that knows anything that Hatton was in for it if Pac landed a good left).....and then put to sleep for minutes by the same landed shot that had landed many times to JMM, David Diaz, and DLH......

I'm not sure about JMM at 140. 135 yes I think that's his weight but not 140. Juan Diaz was on the verge of KOing him and I believe Pac hits as hard, if not harder. Then of course there's his speed. Add the fact that Pac is a different fighter now means big trouble for Marquez. Even Nacho Beristein admitted that Pac is much more elusive and an overall better fighter now than when he fought Marquez last year. Pac wins easy. IMO, Marquez won their second fight.

As for Pacs power, he's never been a one punch knockout kind of guy but I don't think he KO'd Hatton because Hatton was shot or anything like that. Pac's got power to hurt most people from 147 down (although I expect him to fight cautious against Cotto). Hatton has always been able to take a punch, but Pac is no longer a one handed fighter. Just because Hatton got dropped with the right hand does not mean he's a glass jaw or anything. Hatton was moving into Pac's punches whch increases the impact. If you look at the left hook that ended it, it was a bullseye, bang on the chin. You can't get any more flush than that.

As for Diaz and DLH, to be fair to Pac it' not as if he was really planting his feet. He was constantly on his toes, moving in and out, having to take the fight to his opponents as opposed to Hatton who was walking onto Pac's punches.

I agree with homebrand that Pac would've KO'ed DLH had the fight gone on. Let's also not forget that DLH had only been stopped once previously by a Hopkins bodyshot. The guy can take a punch alright.
