Salvador Sanchez Azumah Nelson Alexis Arguello Eusebio Pedroza Vicente Saldivar Marco Antonio Barrera Erik Morales I can't think of the others. Would Juan Manuel Marquez make the list? How about Hamed, who although getting beaten decisively by Barrera, did go 10-1 and unified at that weight? Discuss. Try and order them too. 1. Salvador Sanchez 2. Eusebio Pedroza 3. Vicente Saldivar 4. Azumah Nelson 5. Alexis Arguello 6. Marco Antonio Barrera 7. Erik Morales Help me out.
Agreed. I think Hamed should be on the list above Morales, but I'm not sure if Marquez should be on the list. The best thing he ever did at 126lbs was draw with Manny Pacquiao - who had three fights at the weight himself.
I'd put Marquez on the list. IMO he doesn't get the credit he deserves, perhaps because he isn't the stereotypical Mexican fighter.....
By the time Morales warmed to 126 lbs he was a far better 126 lber than Naseem ever was.... in fact its actually a myth that he wasnt that good at 126, sure, he was better at 122 but I thought he was good in every FWT fight except for the 2nd half of the Espadas fight, the Chi performance was criticised at the time but we didnt know Chi at the time & he never lost to any other fighter in his prime except Morales & went on to prove he was a good fighter & Erik did still win clearly. He probably had his 126 lb peak vs Ayala, brilliant performance, as good as any of his performances at 122 probably.
Davey Moore Sugar Ramos Vicente Saldivar Mitsuneri Seki Howard Winstone Johnny Famechon Jose Legra Eder Jofre Antonio Gomez Shozo Saijo Ernesto Marcel Ruben Olivares Alexis Arguello Danny Lopez Poison Kotey Ruben Castillo Eusebio Pedroza Sal Sanchez JUan Laporte Rocky Lockridge Barry McGuigan Antonio Esparragoza MArcos Villasana Paul Hodgkinson Tom Johnson Kevin Kelley Wilfredo Vazquez Luisito Espinosa Naseem Hamed MAB Erik Morales Pac JMM Some of those early-mid nineties guys maybe shouldn't be there, but off the top of my head i'd say that's most of the notable champions and a few of the better contenders. No doubt i've forgotten a few. Man, the sixties\early seventies was incredibly deep at this weightclass.
Essentially from 1960 on? Aside from the first five choices ( i.e. Sanchez, Pedroza, Arguello, Nelson, Saldivar), cases could be made for any of these fighters making the Top 10 Barerra Morales Jofre Olivares Lopez Esperragoza Hamed Pacquiao Marquez and John also warrant mention.
Saldivar is the greatest, that much I do know. I'll chuck Winstone, Marcel and Little Red into the mix. Marcel is particularly underrated IMO.
If we're talking head to head ability, it's pretty hard to narrow it down to ten. There's a handful of essentials (Marcel, Saldivar, Sanchez, Nelson and Arguello) but then there's about 10 guys that are all roughly on the same level right underneath them.
Duran's win over Marcel, who then went on to beat Arguello, shows that even at such a raw age he could have hung with the best here.
