I would say that its very likely that one of the Americans will (re)emerge out of the Super Six as a major star. Even if they don't actually win it. Froch is my second 'heart' choice behind Abraham. British boxing needs at boost at world level, so I hope he does well.
Can you see that happening though? I'm not so sure now. I thought Taylor could outwork AA, use his speed to get in and out, win a UD. Then I thought about Taylor being very flat footed, not very mobile, and combined with AA's ability to work the body, I can't see Taylor being able to execute the kind of Khan-Kotelnik gameplan that he will need to win. Plus, even if JT does manage to stay on his toes, avoid AA's bombs, not get slowed down by the body shots, you just KNOW JT will gas late on, and AA will pin him down and really **** him up. The gassing will be all the more acute because AA has an awsome defense, high/tight guard which JT will be hitting all night long, even if he outworks AA, he's going to need to be super-accurate, super-often to make a dent in a guy that good at a) slipping/blocking shots and b)taking them even if they land flush.
Kessler Kessler Though I'd be happy to see Abraham do it... actually... i'd be happy if it's him or Froch, but I think Kessler's just too damn good.
What's intruiging is the mix of styles. In theory, Jermain Taylor has the all round game to beat them all. However, he's been in some damaging wars and has big stamina problems. He is class though. On his night, he could box rings around somebody. Not consistant enough to win the whole thing though. Froch just isn't good enough. Power, will and heart of a lion will only get you so far against this level of opposition. Dirrell doesn't impress me very much. It will be interesting to see him step up to this level but it's too much of an ask to be able to beat the Kesslers of this world. Ward is good but not as good as this guy thinks: http://www.boxingnews24.com/2009/10/kessler-vs-ward-the-viking-will-bite-the-dust/ Hilarious article. I mostly like the penultimate paragraph. That leaves Kessler and Abraham as far as I can see. It really depends if the weight factor was hampering Abraham at Middleweight. He looked awful in his last couple of fights at 160 - maybe not awful but almost a shadow of his former self. The weight might have been an issue - I guess we'll find out on Saturday. If you purely look at the styles, Taylor-Abraham is fascinating. Taylor will be able to build up a stack of points (judges permitting!) in the first half of the fight as Abraham can be easily outboxed early on. Then, when JT's stamina problems kick in, Abraham starts to catch up with opponents and he is heavy handed. As I said, a lot depends on what shape Abraham is able to be in at 168. Kessler hasn't been very active recently and I hope that he's able to come back with a bang. A top boxer when he's on form but a few worrying signs (being caught so much against Pedermo, jabs especially if I remember right) in a few fights.
Odds for the weekend's fights..... Abraham vs Taylor AA stoppage 11/10 AA points 6/4 JT stoppage 5/1 JT points 9/2 Froch vs Dirrell Cobra stoppage 5/4 Cobra points 14/5 Dirrell stoppage 7/2 Dirrell points 5/2
There is definately a case to be made for Abraham. Agree that he could shock everyone if making 160 was killing him.
THIS IS HOW ITS GOING TO GO. STOP IGNORING MY BRILLIANCE Taylor beats Abraham Froch beats Dirrel Ward beats Kessler :good
Hopefully Abraham is in better condition at SMW. My heart say AA, but my head says, Kessler will beat them all :good
