This coming from a man who has not seen any of Louis's prime fights and dosn't understand why he would need to to make a valid prediction.
Jesus. Do you people have jobs? This thread has taken about twenty turns since I last looked. Go outside, breathe some fresh air, talk to a girl.
Louis was quite nimble on his feet in the Baer fight and the Levinsky fight. He didn't often use footwork but he could if he needed to.
And yet, when he was being trained briefly by Holman Williams, he was almost what you could call a 'cutie.' That shuffle was totally deliberate.
Deliberate and perfect and one of the reasons Louis carried fight-saving power so late into fights. Perfect footwork for his style.
Feeding Vitali Klitschko to a prime Joe Louis would be like giving a huge slab of raw meat to a tiger. Big, slow of foot guys were exactly what Joe loved to fight. If you were trying to find a perfect, name opponent for Joe to beat up on, Vitali would surely be on the short list. How long Vitali lasted would be a simple measure of how much pain he could withstand...in my opinion, of course.
louis to me shuffles going forward quite a bit ,but not that much when going backward .i have always thought his shuffling although going forward a defensive and attacking stratagy in one .he makes his opponent miss by small margins and stays in range to throw back with venom does this sound like bollocks i am listening to some music so am half here i voted louis to win (cuts vitali up)
No your observations are perfectly astute. Look more closley and you will see that Louis often pulls back imidiately before he finishes his oponent off. He liked to draw his oponents into coming forward so that he could nail them coming in and often did this by stepping slightly out of range. He was also not above holding back with the heavy artilery to make his oponent complacent. In this respect Louis worked a bit like a venus fly trap.
so his style would negate any reach advantage his opponent might have and could be a nightmare for vitali
