Equally disturbing is the punch split his guard early in the first round and took him out. Like you say, too early to tell, but ...

You know some people get caught cold ... I don't want to sound like i'm making excuses but there are some specialy qualities in fighters that get over looked and thats the ability to recover quickly ...

But there are some cases where you can't recover immediately ... and you can't hold or get on your bike because you have no legs or no cognition ... i'll accept an L like that if I had to take one.

There are so many unanswered questions _

This isn't like Tito Ortiz or anything like that ... this guy was getting beat down ... and you can kinda make an argument for a quick or late stoppage on behalf of the ref ... if you're pro Linares, you can argue that he should've been given another knock down and which would've bought him time to recover. Or if you're Jay Nady ... you would stop the fight after the first knockdown.

It actually didn't even touch his guard. He misjudged the punch and moved his glove too far back of his face/temple and got cracked flush. Check out 4:37. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TVJTtjnW5Aw[/ame]

That is what I meant. That kind of misjudgement when you are still fresh. Right between the two gloves he put up to guard himself. Still, I won't get on anyone for one mistake.

Why would we treat this knockout differently? When a knockout happens it's not like the receiving guy expects the **** to be beaten out of him. Every knockout has all factors coming into play.

What, because your favorite boxer got knocked out suddenly there's a regular knockout and then there's this "special" knockout that exempts your guy from having the stigma of a freakin 1st-rd KO loss on his record?

It seems to me a bunch of prospects are getting smoked because they don't know how to keep cool, that is take a knee and take a small break while the count is on and then come back with your equilibrium straight. Maybe this inexperience at being in trouble is what's killing the younger guys.

Is there a rematch clause for Linares?

Maybe they'll keep his ass fighting in Japan now, what happens if Salgado gets him like that again? Would be really hard to make two "special" knockout rules :!:

No ****. Linares has been hit much harder than that in fights previous. :rofl

None of those shots were right square on his temple. Go figure, eh?....

I thought of that too. Cotto is hard to kill.

The circumstances being everything, yep, he was cold, and completely blind. His glove moved right at the last second.

Well Cotto did have 17lb advantage on little Corley who was not even known as a puncher. If that was Judah or Mosley that nailed Cotto with a powershot flush on the temple he may have well been finished in that round.
