Roy Jones....is it too late to solidify his legacy?

His legacy is done with, what he's doing more is just extra which he really doesn't need to do. It's like Leonard's fights with Camacho and Norris, those fights weren't there for him to add "legacy", his legacy is done with and this is the addiction of fighting taking over.

If you can't see that his legacy is done with then you must have issues.

 

Comprehensively being outboxed by Calzaghe is enough of a nail in his coffin. You can't even stick a fork in Jones anymore, he's been on the BBQ so long that he's been overcooked to a point that it's irretrievable.

 

Jones has been shot for nearly 5 years, it took Calzaghe 5 years for both him and his father to know it's safe enough to ask for that fight knowing these guys are 40+, past it and safe enough for them. In their primes Calzaghe claimed his WBOgus was too precious for him to run after them, they should come to him yet when they're 40+ and he has endless fights to watch and make sure they're shot to death he carried his lineal title all the way to the US.

Calzaghe's claim to fame = two fights. Lacy and Kessler. Even those two fights weren't going to happen till these guys LITERALLY BEGGED to make it and packed THEIR MAJOR BELTS, WBOgus isn't exactly as major as you think, and took it to England. Otherwise Calzaghe would still be remembered as a WBOgus title holder without even CONSIDERING unification for a long list of laughable pathetic excuses only the bartenders he fought would justify.

 

Roy should have stopped fighting after beating Ruiz. He hasn't proved anything since then, and he has lost to guys he would have taken apart in his prime.

He is only tarnishing his legacy by becoming the cliche "I can still do this" Boxer who doesn't know when to quit.

He should be thinking about a career behind the mic or promoting, or both.

This is not quite accurate. Calzaghe was the one who was the number 1 in the SMW division when the Lacy and Kessler fights happened, regardless of titles held. Calzaghe took a massive pay cut to get Lacy in the ring. That's why Lacy is wearing diamond earings these days.

I take the point you're trying to make (although woefully off-topic) but your inaccurate ramblings make it hard for me to be on your side.

 

His win over BHOP was still good. BHOP wasn't completely gone like Jones, he still can compete at the elite.

 

His legacy is already sealed.

Jones' legacy is more then solidified, can you name anyone else who has accomplished what he did?

At this point theres nothing he can do he is old and shot, win the the IBO title and maybe defend it a few times thats really all he can do now.

 

Roy Jones has about as much chance at advancing his legacy as the pope earning a medal on the uneven parallel bars.

 

1. It's common knowledge that Hopkins pulled out of a fight with Calzaghe more than half a decade ago after agreeing to the deal.
2. Bernard Hopkins loses at Middleweight and decides to skip Super Middleweight to campaign at about 170-172lbs a weight division higher.
3. Bernard Hopkins called out Joe Calzaghe after beating Winky Wright in 2007. Note the Freudian slip from Bhop:

4. Joe Calzaghe agrees to the fight and it happens early 2008 in Hopkins backyard.

I don't see what Calzaghe has done wrong with the Hopkins situation.
