Horrible robbery. Horrible stuff. Still can't really believe it. I gues James did what he had to do at the end of that fight, but if he ever needed to show some humility it was then. Toney was one of my very favourites for years upon years but the memory of this fight just wilted him in my mind over the years. Not his fault, but there it is.
Haven't seen it seen it was originally televised but I had it clearly for Tiberi. One case where not getting a decision relegated a fighter to bolivion (apologies to iron mike).
People often say that James has stated that Tiberi won the fight, but I've never seen it. Haven't seen it in its entirety, but I've heard Tiberi won soundly.
Tiberi clearly won the fight. Even ABC's Alex Wallau expressed his frustration about the decision during the postfight interview.... Its amazing how much Toney has achieved with the 35% effort he's put into his career.
In fact I believe Tiberi was so fustrated he never fought again. He even tried to petition the courts to try & have this outrageous decision reversed, but to no avail.
This fight actually makes me feel sick!! In a time when the word "robbery" is clearly overused...this was a robbery of the highest order!!
Shame the kid fought his _ off and should have took the title with him...he was an off the charts under_dog but they stole it from him
Arguably the most disgusting robbery I've ever seen. The look on Tiberi's face when the decision was announced was shattering: as someone said, it was a big factor in pushing Tiberi into retirement.
