    Pfffft.

Well there's no ko here. I'll take Jeanette to toss Sharkey out of his rythym and win a razor thin disputed decision coming from behind down the strait...last round settles it, Sharkey loses a point for a foul! How about that? But it's anybody's fight which is why you put it up i'm guessing.

Jeanette had trouble with the heavyweight version of Sam Langford's attacking style.

While Jeanette likely had more skill than Sharkey, I think Sharkey who was just as dynamic as Langford ( Sharkey got to the speedy Choynski and Corbett ) would make the fight, and earn the decision. I also think Sharkey hit harder.

Jeanette wasn't the type to force the action. He was a counter puncher.

Both guys are very tough and hard to stop. When an aggressive swarmer meets a counter puncher, I'll go with the swarmer especially if he hits harder.

Best guess is Sharkey wins via decision.

I wouldn't really expect this to be an easy fight. Sharkey was very spry on his feet and a little freaked out bull; I don't see Jeanette keeping him away, and I don't think he's Fitz'ie enough to punch Sharkey off. Jeanette was very durable, so I think this goes the distance, and I know not who gets the laurels.

Jeanette and McVea were probably on par. They went 1-1-1. The question is, do we know that the McVea Jeanette fought was better than Tom Sharkey at his best? McVea might have done better against Fitzsimmons (for that matter, 1899 Sharkey might have done better than the versions of Sharkey that actually faced Fitz), but could McVea match Sharkey's accomplishments against Corbett? Would McVea have given Jeffries the same trouble as Sharkey? Maybe, maybe not. I don't think it's a closed case that McVea was better than Sharkey at the Sailors best.

Sharkey v Corbett has a very strong aroma to it.
Sharkey was twice destroyed by Fitz.I pick Jeanette and Mcvey to beat Sharkey.

I don't see this, Sharkey was destroyed by Fitz twice, Fitz v Langford would be nip and tuck imo.
Langford crucifies Sharkey imo, he was better in every department.
Langford stops Choynsky too ,Choynsky was a great puncher but fairly chinny himself.
Corbett against Langford? I go with Sam.

I will conceed it's possible that, while Fitzsimmons may not have met the best Sharkey, Sharkey in turn may have met a very rusty and overconfident Corbett when they first exhibited, and it may be that Corbett did have an ankle injury when they later had a contest. Although I'm not in the habit of taking all of Corbett's claims at face value.

Sorry I dont agree,Fitz stopped Sharkey in 8 rds with a legitimate body shot. The referee, Wyatt Earp ruled that Fitz's punch was low ,to safe guard gamblers money, this was in 1896 Sharkey was undefeated up till then and only 23. Fitz again kod Sharkey in 2 rds ,in 1900 ,when Sharkey was still only 27 , and , had only lost three fights, two on points to Jeffries and a 15 rd stoppage to Gus Ruhlin.Sharkey was, by no means old, or used up when Fitz beat him at either time.

It does but not in a way that is unfavourable to Sharkey.

Corbett and his team ended up in the dock over how the fight ended.

This is not to imply that Sharkey would have beaten Jeanette.

I don't beleive Sharkey has ever been accused of any wrong doing in this fight.Whereas good old Gentleman Jim was involved in a couple of curious encounters , one of which was with Kid McCoy ,that paragon of virtue.

Sharkey was beaten up in the title rematch with Jeffries by Jeff's less vaunted right alone, and this was in a situation where one would expect Sailor Tom to be his best prepared.

Could Sharkey beat Jeanette by decision with genuinely neutral judging? Because even Langford couldn't take him out until Joe was in his late 30s. Jeanette would visit the deck in this one, but he'd have his arm raised at the end of 20.

Jim might have been no gentleman but he could sure as hell pass for one.

When his entire company ended up in court due to the Sharkey fight, he talked them all out of the stew pot.
