Mostly limited to what works and sells tickets at the same time. Pav did the 'slick' as an amateur but when his power 'came in' he adjusted. Plus I remember years ago on local TV Jack Loew talking about Kelly being a fun to watch fighter. I get the impression they had an eye on marketability even back then.
well, when what you do has resulted in no one in your weight class hearing the final bell...limits or not, your doing something right. i have to say tho herm, i havent seen much of kelly's amateur stuff. wouldnt mind catching some.
I must have watched a different fight because the one I saw, Williams was barely bleeding let alone bleeding like a stuck pig like you're saying. The fight I saw Williams put rounds into the bank until the 8 or 9th when Margo started coming on like a man possessed and really brought it to Williams to set up an edge of your seat finish that featured two gloved windmills on crack going at it.
The story goes that thru the Am. ranks KP was getting quite the rep. as a fantastic boxer (his record confirms this), then when he turned about 17, all of a sudden he was knockin' the holy **** out of everybody. (Jack and Mike say as if it was "overnight"). One part I can't wait for is all the Corky's that keep insisting that Pav CAN'T fight on the inside to eat a big steaming **** burger when the REAL Pavlik stands up.:yep

I haven't either and am relying on an interview Boo pointed too where Kelly says his nickname came, in part, from his brother saying he was like a Ghost in the amateurs. He'd hit a guy and be tapping him on his other shoulder before the guy finished blinking. Let's face it, you cannot really rely to heavily in the ams on a KO. It is a point scoring contest first. That is what ruins some of the speedsters later on. They never learn to sit down on punches and keep 'shoe shining'.
