Hi guys, how do people feel about Sky Sports boxing coverage? Good or bad? Personally, I think they could be doing a much better job. Everything just feels stale and has done for a very long time. With the exception of the Prizefighter series, which I think is an excellent format, they don't seem to have any sort of coherent plan for the sport. I'm also dissapointed that they haven't picked up more international bouts since Setanta collapsed - I understant that doing so is expensive and wouldn't necessarily translate into good viewing figures but maybe if they spent a little time and a little money actually promoting certain match-ups, like Pavlik-Williams and Cotto-Pacquiao, interest could be generated amongst general viewers and new fans could be made. Any thoughts?
Theyre Friday Fight Nights shows this "season" look quality, some great cards on there, at British level I would never knock them, FFN is the bread and butter of domestic boxing, I wouldn't mind them say showing another FFN type card in the week (they used to more often a while back). I'm no big fan of theyre PPV's though.
:good I feel pretty much the same way, the only thing I would add is that there should be an option to watch other fights on the undercard. The camera's are there, so let us watch them!! Whether this means the program is extended to show all the fights or you can 'press the red button' or whatever. FFN's for the next few weeks are awesome, but I want to see as much boxing as possible and showing two fights of a six/seven (sometimes more) fight undercard leaves me thinking 'wonder what I missed'. Other than that the only things that would improve Sky's coverage would be the ITV theme tune and a Buncey/McGuigan collaboration :hey
Get rid of Adam Smith and it would immediately become much better. They must have been listening to somebody, because the content in the upcoming weeks looks very good, better than in recent times, so fair play to them. Still don't like the Khan PPV thing, nor the fact that 'The Olympians' are being sold as a package, bearing in mind one of them didn't go, and the fact that they are all individuals who should have their own identities. I'd say a 6/10. Better than previously, but still room for much improvement.
Getting rid of Dave Clark goes without saying - I just didn't want to post the obvious. Smith and Clark out, Jim Watt (if he has to stay) into the studio. If they stopped nuthugging fighters they wouldn't grate so much, but there always seems to be an agenda. BRING LAMPLEY OVER :deal
Agree whole heartedly mate :good The red button idea is a cracking idea imo and as you say the camera's are there.
Take tonight. There are 13 fights on the bill in total. FFN starts at 10pm, so the main event will be on first. If it goes the full 12 then we'll see two of Sykes, Jeffries, Groves and Price. If there's a highlight reel KO in there or any controversy then we'll see that as well. But that means there are still about 8 or 9 fights from which we'll see almost no footage!! Why? I havent looked what is on after FFN, but surely the ratings wont be as high as they are for the boxing? Put the entire bill on!
