How can you make your own highlights videos to display on youtube??

Hey there, I'm one of those guys, so maybe I can help you get started.

First, there are a bunch of different programs you can use in order to make the videos. If you're using a PC, Windows Movie Maker is probably already on your computer, and you can technically use that, although it's got a weird control scheme and tends to produce movies in less than great quality. (Also, in my case, I only made one or two vids with it before it started developing errors and glitches and refusing to actually make the videos after I put together all of the footage, which led me to quit doing anything with it).

Some of the different programs that are out there have free trial versions that you can use for a limited time, and for awhile I kept mooching off of one of these. Eventually I saw that I liked the particular program I was using and that I was going to keep making videos rather than just doing one or two, so I went ahead and bought the full thing. (The program I use is called Power Director, made by a company called Cyber Link. It's fairly easy to use, although you do have spend a little time figuring it all out and I've heard there are better programs out there).

You can both download and cut together clips from youtube or from your own DVDs. The easiest way to download clips from youtube is to start using the Firefox browser, if you're not already. (If you're not using it and are currently using Internet Explorer, you can download Firefoz for free from the site of the company that makes it). Then, Firefox has a whole bunch of extra plug-ins that let you customize the browser for yourself. (Also free). One of these is called Download Helper, and it'll let you take the clips you find on youtube or most other major video sites.

(Pro tip: when you can download a video from whatever page you're on, an icon lights up on your browser. Click on an arrow to the side of the icon, and it'll give you a choice of what you can download from what pages are currently open. When on youtube, it usually comes up with several things for the page. Make sure you click on on the things that says HQ [for High Quality] because that'll save you from having to convert that file you're downloading afterwards, and you'll have better quality video without having to do that conversion.)

Okay, I can help out the OP. I'm familiar with editing. It's sort of a hobby I started when I got into awhile back. You can download footage and boxing stuff on variant sites/torrent places. If you have DVDS this is your best bet. The simplest way is to download a DVD Ripper of some kind.

As for editing programs. A pretty simple intuitive but high powered program is Sony Vegas. I'd look on youtube and see how can you get Sony Vegas 8 or something for free (Yeah, technically not legal). Make sure you have the necessary codecs or a codec package so the Vegas works for different video/audio codecs. You can do a simple google to solve that. I'd recommend Ripping your DVD in divx avi video codec - that seems to run well with Vegas.

By the way, you need a decent enough computer. Vegas is processor based. Video card has zero bearing, but you need at least a decent processor to run the program efficiently.

If I were you, I'd just play around with footage. You got to practice. I first started and just made complete crap. But gradually, I got better.

Ask any technical questions. There's a lot to cover/explain but I didn't want to overburden you. You really don't need Vegas, you can use a simpler program. But it's a good program, and not too difficult to learn. Get a DVD Ripper to rip the footage to your computer or just download the things you want.

For advice, don't get effects crazy. Focus on making the cuts so the video looks good. Also, try getting music that fits the subject well.
