Russian star Alexander Povetkin (17-0, 12 KOs) will fight for the IBF Interim Heavyweight Championship, the IBF has confirmed. “That is great news for Alexander,” Sauerland Event General Manager Chris Meyer said. “He has been waiting for his title shot for such a long time. We are very happy that the IBF grants Alexander this chance.” The 30-year-old Olympic gold medal winner has been waiting for his IBF title shot ever since beating Eddie Chambers, who is now the WBO mandatory challenger, in an elimination tournament in January 2008. A first showdown with Klitschko failed to materialise in December 2008 when Povetkin injured his ankle in practice. The IBF ordered Klitschko to defend his title against Povetkin before September 13, 2009. However, the Ukrainian champion opted to fight Ruslan Chagaev in June 2009 instead. He needed to undergo shoulder surgery afterwards and has been declared unfit to fight until the end of 2009. Since Klitschko´s latest injury significantly extends Povetkin´s waiting time yet again, the IBF ordered an interim title fight. “Finally, the waiting is over for Povetkin,” Meyer added. “He gets what he deserves – a world title fight in the near future. We are all tired of waiting for Klitschko.”
If Eddie Chambers does not want to fight Povetkin for the IBF Interim Title, Samuel Peter would be the next in line. “We are waiting to see who the opponent will be,” Meyer added. “We will then work out the date and the venue as soon as possible.” The title shot means that Povetkin will not take a tune-up fight in Baltimore on October 16.

I hope peter gets the fight!!

Peter v Povetkin would be a good fight. Considering the amount of punches Povetkin throws, he's always open. If Peter comes in at the 230's where I think his speed comes into play, he has a chance of a stoppage here.

Peter would be good but i prefer Chambers so he can avenge his ony loss!
Chambers vs povetkin its a rematch that has to happen and i dont want to see both getting a title shot! More time for wlad to deal with Hayemaker!

You can't be serious? Peter has decent handspeed for 2 rounds when he is 'in shape' (which in reality he should weigh no more than 230 so he is never in shape) then it fades just like his supposed power.

His best KO is Glass Jaw Oleg Maskaev. Peter has not KOed ANY of the better fighters he has fought.

Povetkin would **** Peter it would not even be a fight.

Why Samuel is ranked so high after beating two bums in Mexico?

No he isn't he has ZERO skills to speak of. He fights like a caveman and that is why he will NEVER beat an upper level Heavyweight.

He has lost momentum in my opinion and needs a good win against a named opponent sto get himself back into contention. Him against Peter would be ideal.

He beat a 240 pound 38 year old James Toney. Big deal he lost the first fight.

Peter has no skill and his fights with both Klitschko's and Chambers proved this.

He gave wlad all he could handle, yes the fight with vitali was pathetic and the chambers fight peter won the first 4 round imo with the jab but after that he tired due to being 600 lbs and at the time Toney was ranked in the top 10 at the time no matter how old he was
