Well, no way Chambers is interested in this so long was he's reasonably sure of being Wlad's 1st post-injury stop via WBO. Credit the IBF in forcing a fight on Povetkin given how long he's ended up sitting on the mandatory, even if it is just a sanctioning fee grab. Though Peter doesn't really deserve this shot, anytime two top-15 HW's face off, I won't complain (besides, who else? Most legit possibilities are coming off losses or have no top-15 fights). Fans get a decent HW fight, Povetkin gets his tune up, Peter gets to prove if he really does still care. Not a bad deal. Wide UD Povetkin.
He's Wlad's WBO mandatory and with Povetkin involved with this, he'd be Wlad's next fight. He'd be nuts to take this fight.
agreed on Chambers as he already sits #1 by the WBO unless the money is insanely good or Chambers badly wants revenge at Povetkin + the IBF interim title Eddie's already set for a crack at Wlad by being the WBO's #1 why bother to take the risk in fighting Povetkin?
lol. these sanctioning bodies are worse than politicians and insurance companies. Sauerland is doing anything they can to prevent povetkin and valuev from facing wlad. I knew they were gonna pull this bull**** and i betcha they even tried/will try to get him stripped. Wlad should agree to fight Povetkin and Valuev on the same night, then perhaps Sauerland will agree to a fight.
^ well in all fairness look how long Povetkin has been the IBF's mandatory and not gotten his crack at Wlad
Povetkin pulled out of their December 2008 fight due to "tripping over a tree root". That's why Wlad ended up with Rahman.Sounded like bull**** then and it stinks even worse now. Sauerland has been stalling ever since with "tuneup" fights.
That is a bit crazy to put Peter so high in the ranking after no more than he's done after being thrashed by Vitali and outboxed by Chambers. But, Povetkin would beat Peter like a rented mule. Chambers would probably hold is own, this time, against Povetkin in a very close fight that Chambers may well win. But as has been said, I don't see Chambers taking the risk. Why should he when he's already guaranteed a shot at Wlad?
where is the logic in going for the interm? Povetkin beat Byrd, then Chambers to get a shot at Wlad... now he wants to fight AGAIN to get a piece of the IBF belt? Seems like a HUGE chance considering Povetkin wil have to fight Wlad anyways with or without the Interm belt. seems like all risk with no real reward....NO? I SMELL SOME BACKDOOR BULL**** BREWING!!!!!!!
Povetkin had 2 chances with Wlad... 1st: Povetkin pulled out due to ankle injury 2nd: Said "NO" as a replacement when Haye pulled out
povetkin to get a big UD win. at the very least though, we will see povetkin in a fight with a guy who can hit (he hits harder than chambers and byrd anyway) god knows. no doubt there are better options, but not many
That's ridiculous when Povetkin refused to fight Wlad twice when the he had the chance. This is just more belt bull**** and a disgrace to boxing. :-(
Because Wladimir won't fight until probably April or May, and that will be a long wait for Chambers, and what better opponent to fight next than Alexander Povetkin.
