This is on a Hatton Bill on 27/11 could be a ******* another hughes fighter vs small. I think Small will have to much trickery
Didn't McDonagh lose to Sam Webb? I feel Small has improved of late, certainly since the Pryce defeat. He's still a twat though, nevertheless should get a win here.
I see a Small UD here - McDonagh went the distance with Wayne Alexander which suggests a good chin. I just hope McDonagh is in a more exciting fight than the Webb one :tired
Read on Boxrec that McDonagh is promoted by Hatton and Small has some sort of legal issue with Warren. Small should take this easily.
Much-improved Anthony Small defends his Commonwealth light-middleweight title against Manchester’s Thomas McDonagh in Wigan on November 27, promoted by Ricky Hatton. Small lifted the belt in his last fight with an eight-round stoppage of Manchester’s hard-hitting Matthew Hall in Manchester, so a return trip to Lancashire to face Manchester’s lighter-hitting McDonagh will peturb him not. The flashy, cocky but undeniably talented Londoner has won five on the spin since his only loss (in 23 fights) to tough Welshman Bradley Pryce in the summer of 2007. His recent victims incude the established Takaloo, good American Freddy Curiel and the dangerous Hall, of course, who holds a quick, three-knockdown win over the same Pryce, the latter of which underlines Anthony’s recent improvement. He boxes brilliantly and throws a ton of punches, although his dazzling combinations are often interspersed with a touch of raggedness and he is not a huge puncher (neither man is). One doubts he is going to the top, as Small regularly likes to brag, but at this level he looks pretty exceptional and certainly too much for the gangling McDonagh, who goes by the ridiculous tag of “Storm Boy” and is pretty flashy himself. I once saw McDonagh run for 12 rounds against Wayne Alexander in a fight he looked capable of winning (although Alexander could really crack) and more recently he was held to a draw by Andrew Facey and outscored (narrowly) by Sam Webb in other big fights. McDonagh seems to lack the temperament to really go for it as every challenger must - to ‘grab’ a title - but, like Hall, he holds a win over that man Pryce but he looked a bit lucky to get the nod that night, in my opinion, as he faded badly down the 12-round stretch and at one point looked like pulling a “No Mas”. These are harsh words, perhaps, because McDonagh undoubtedly has genuine boxing ability and knows how to use his height and reach on the counter. He can crack a bit in low-pressure fights. This all adds to the frustration one garners when he steps up but maybe he is about to change all that. Every dog has its day. Nevertheless, the biter – the winner - looks highly likely to be Small.
he fought in July on the khan Kotelnik bill. I just hope Small puts a solid statement out to move on from this!!! Glad to see Warren is not letting him without trying to shaft him with this potential legal tie uP!!!
